I received Shimano shifter and brake cable sets, and cable/housing cutter yesterday. I had the RD shifter cable swapped within ~10 minutes. It couldn't have been any easier. Prior to then, I've ridden ~35,000 miles and I've NEVER replaced a cable myself. Thankfully I was already competent at adjusting the indexing, which IMHO is harder than the cable/housing swap. But both are pretty easy to do, not sure why I waited so long.

I've been keeping any eye out for a Specialized CGR seatpost for my wife, because she complains about bumpy roads and vibrations sometimes. I found one like new for a reasonable price and bought it for her.

She rode two or three times and said she didn't notice any difference. Certainly no worse than her solid alloy post, but not any better, as far as she could tell.

So, naturally, I put the old post back on her bike and moved the Cobble GobbleR to my Cinelli Parallax. I can definitely feel a difference. Works as advertised to smooth out the ride. The Parallax frame has steep angles and 7075 aluminum, which add up to make its ride pretty harsh. Great handling, just harsh.

I'm keeping the seat post on here, because might as well be one of us comfortable, now that I've bought it. (I hate to see good bike parts go to waste).

Some new tubulars, now mounted on rims to stretch. These are the widest tubulars I've had since the Clément Campionato del Mondo Setas I had many years ago.

Just bought six tubes of the best tubular glue on earth:

Works great on both aluminum and carbon rims.

They're great tires. Out of curiosity, do you know what yours measure out to? I have 23's and they measure right at 22.5.

For the RockHopper: VP-538 pedals. Black plastic platforms with plastic, formed pins and sealed bearings.

For the Schwinn Sprint:

1) a new (cheap) freewheel, another DNP model but 3/32” this time,

2) a SRAM PC-830 chain, and

3) a square taper Shimano 110mm BB.

I just bought a bunch of Mothers metal polishes and waxes for my silver bicycle components, and for my bicycle frames. I've heard good things about Mother's polishes on these forums and figured I'd give them a try.

Cheers

I had a car with very expensive HRE non-clearcoated polished aluminum wheels. I was living in New Jersey and the rain there would leave horrific water spots on them. It's very hard water. I used Mothers and everything else I could find to remove them and nothing worked. I finally got some Blue Magic polish and they wiped right off, 100x better than Mothers. That's all I use now. I used to have some before/after pics of components I restored on my vintage bikes but they have a mirror finish.

I buy stuff for my single speeds all the time. I found this White freewheel on the bay a few weeks ago, I have never seen one like it, it's a 22T to go with my current fascination of climbing hills with a single.

Anyone see one like this? I may take on of my other Whites and give it a drillium look, just 'cause I'm a little goin crazy in this Fl weather (real feel of 107 this past weekend)

I wouldn't start drilling out WI freewheels the ones that come like that are designed like that. A smaller one probably won't hold up well to drilling and it is a really nice freewheel to be messing with.

Brooks C17 Carved saddle arrived today. Unfortunately it rained all day and I wanted the saddle for my bike that doesn't have fenders, so aside from rolling around the driveway I didn't get to test it much. I'm hoping it's comfy like so many reviews say it is.

Basically everything to build up the frame. Once I hit 10 posts I will share pictures of the finished bike.

It rides so nicely, will definitely be getting a second one at some point to run up front!

Sorry for going OT, but I m curious what you've paired this with on the front, and how limiting are you finding the lower gear ratio on the flats, as far as speed goes?

We barely have any hills here, but the winds have been bananas lately (40-60kph headwinds yesterday. No thanks!) I'm relatively new to SS so it's a guessing game for me at this point if I want to start tweaking gear ratios.

I use my single speed bikes to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway, lots of hills, not much over 7% though, just many miles from bottom to top.

I was using this with a front of 38T (130 BCD crank) real good for climbing, couldn't really hook up much above 11-12 mph so I was just coasting down.

I know what you mean. I ride my tires till they are completely worn. I have a Vittoria front tire on my road bike and fixed gear with other tires in the back. Can't wait to see what the bikes feel like with Vittoria front and rear! The bikes feel faster even with just a Vittoria in the front.

Today I bought a set of Topeak Versamount clamps for a bottle cage. Looks like a good way to mount one without scratching the frameset.

I heard the split Canyon style one is slightly better, may be worth giving it a go?

I swapped out my 25C Veloflex Corsa EVOs for 28C Veloflex Corsa EVOs. They measure correctly and the fatter tires offer a comfier ride. Unfortunately a wider tire means more area for goatheads to puncture, but the tubeless tires have held up pretty well so far. Fingers crossed.
