Addiction 2023.4

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No 787s on the route home or any where close to home. Rental car is a last resort. Really do not want to to do that.

new CEO for strava, i hope they asked him all the pertinent questions about his experience. disk or rim? carbon or steel or titanium? computer or phone? pedal or crank PM? tubeless or tubed? larry or wolf? pump or CO2?!?!?

I see the free version going *POOF!* in the near future.

I actually like Strava enough, I would not mind paying a modest annual fee for the stripped down version they now offer for free. But I don't really want/need the "premium" features they offer and $80/year seems slightly steep for a thrifty guy like me. I would be fine with paying $20 or $25/year for the basic version.

edit: I looked it up and BF is $12 annual fee. I am ok with that, same rationale as above.

upon sleeping on it…. I suppose it’s possible that everything is hunky dory on 18v—no load. They spin freely with no load. When the load gets to be enough, the 20v max in the battery kicks in and the 18v drill kicks out. But one would think Dewalt would have designed that in.

took a shortcut this past summer on a ride with mrs t2p

the ‘shortcut’ included a hike of around 3 - 4 miles … we did it with our bikes

we passed a few people that declared we could not do the hike with our bikes - which motivated me even more to complete the hike … on a couple of spots including the last big climb out of a small gorge we had to carry and hand off the bikes

then the clouds increased and grew darker and it began to drizzle … and we were maybe 2 hours from our origin in an unfamiliar area (first time riding / hiking in the area) … around 2 hours before sunset

to add - I was struggling to consume enough water because of lower abdomen pain (which later was diagnosed as a 5mm kidney stone )
