Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BITD, when smallish girls like my older sister used to date largish guys like my now-brother-in-law, and they got their class rings to wear to show they were going steady, the trick was to wrap the back side of the ring with yarn or adhesive tape, but this would soon grow funky, what with skin oils, sweat, handwashing, etc. So they'd paint the lump with nail polish to keep moisture and other crud off it.

This made a formidably large, and hard lump, which hurt A LOT when I got smacked in the head with it for violating what she saw as 'The Rules' at the dining table.

I have since forgiven her.

If you hit the sweet spot it will also “crack”, and go far away. But the most typical sound is a “pop”.

I dunno, man. "The pop of the bat" doesn't have the same feeling as "The crack of the bat", and of course "The ping of the bat" was never all that great.

The game has changed in the last 25+ years since I played? Interesting.

EDIT: Here's a reasonable example of how my daughter's bat sounds. I've found the recorded sound varies a LOT depending on which device I'm using . This sounds a lot like what my ears hear...

Sounds nothing like any of our bats, but I think the biggest difference in sound is due to the ball used. Lemme take a pic of our ball.

A bat got impaled on one of my chainrings while I was flying down I-95 one night after our club’s Brooklyn ride. I discovered it a few days later as I was packing the bike for Oregon. I screamed like a little girl.

They are not "hanging" bikes. See my previous post.

Also, one of those 3 bikes is meant for off-road duty.

Can confirm. Got tired of them breaking so I switched to stainless cages. I liked them because the main cage is plastic coated steel and didn't mark the bottles like aluminum does. Every so often I would slam into a pothole or rr track and the bottle on the seat tube would go through the stupid little tab and I would carry it in my pocket for the rest of the ride.

Try again.

So I was passing over I-75 (far right) when up ahead, coming around the curve, were two CSX locomotives. They went overhead just as I arrived. Talk about timing.
