Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Also, I have to say that I'm kind of enjoying watching KC get humbled every now and then.

I'm watching The Football Team visit Lambeau Field, hoping it starts to snow, but it's probably not cold enough.

Nope not even close. The way Rogers is bundled up on the sideline, I thought there might be a chance.

Hope some of it finds it's way into the reservoirs. They claim it's going to rain here. I'll believe it when I see it.

Reached out to a local race team, want to get this party started for next season. There was a local cross race today, seeing the pictures makes me want to go buy a checkpoint. sigh.

I went to ride with club #2 today, a little 25 mile ride with a few small climbs. It was billed as a no drop, casual pace ride and had about 20 riders. First time I've ridden with them in a while and it was a fun time. One friend who was very fast has been having back trouble and claims to have lost fitness but it didn't look like it to me. The big casualty of his back problem was his wife's fitness. She told me she stopped riding when he stopped but kept on with Zwift and eventually gave that up, too. She was huffing and puffing early and later in the ride she dropped out the back. She was discouraged and told her husband to go on and she would ride in alone.

I dropped back and tried to block the wind for her and we rode in together. I hope she keeps at it but she has a ways to go.

Nice shots. I recognize one of them was in my yard a couple weeks ago.

Most of the people I know who have raced CX have used the cheapest bikes they could. CX bikes take more of a beating than any other bikes when raced in mud. They just hose them off after the race.
Redline bikes were fine but I think they stopped making them.

Should you think about cross, I would make sure there is a skills clinic as part of the deal. Many teams offer them, and cross is skills intense.

Some pics were posted from today.
Ride start. I'm hidden at the far end.

A little bike path on the way out. I'm standing on the line.

Some of them did an organized ride yesterday. This pic is from that ride.

Since it ain't a fit day out for man or beast, I spent the late morning/early afternoon in the garage, Zwifting. Completed the Zwift Academy Finish Line Ride, so I've graduated. No pro contract was offered to me, so I guess I'll keep my day job.

After that ride was done and I'd cooled off a bit - the big climb was just at the end of the ride - I road a couple shorter routes, and I was just finishing up the second one when Dory starts barking non-stop. I didn't know at what, but it just kept on going, so I came upstairs and asked. Seems a section -well, TWO sections, really - of the fence with the neighbors had come down. Standard suburban 6' fence, posts every 8 feet, so when one post goes down, two sections fall, and that's what happened.

So, we got to meet the neighbors. And we'll get to replace at least 16' of fence. We had some 2x4 mesh fencing, so we strung that across the gap, since Rango thinks he wants to meet their dog.

Checkpoint is gravel - slower/more stable geometry, more tire clearance (in UCI races, CX is limited to 33mm or something like that), has IsoSpeed front and rear, and more mounts for ADVENTURE!!!!

Boone and Crockett are both CX; Boone is CF and Crockett is Al.

Ill ask, cross would be next fall, there’s no way I would try it this season. Plus I don’t have a bike.
