It’s a very nicely built frame. The paint is durable, fully chromed underneath and the frame is STIFF. The frame isn’t designed to be a lightweight frame, my tiny 50cm frameset built up is about 21lbs.
I also have a Miyata 1000 (1990 champagne/gold) and the Team stiffness reminds me of the 1000 unloaded but much, much more agile.
If the Team Miyata is in your size and within your budget, I’d say buy it! Or if the Team size ~50cm I’ll buy it from you
I (we) look forward to your “new bike day” post!

If the frame is a 1983 model, then the group have been changed. It has the second version (8 gear) of Shimano 600/Ultegra (Usually called Tricolor).

By the sellers measurements I cant figure out if the frame is 50cm or 52cm, although he tells me the top tube is 55cm

You can identify the year of the model by the first letter of the serial number: https://classicjapanesebicycles.com/miyata-sn/
Edit - I think the early 80s have the size stamped on the BB as well. My ‘81 has 52DD (dynamdrive) so you can see if it match the size in the catalogue.

Can someone please tell me if the 55cm toptube would correspond with a 52cm frame? The seller is having a hard time measuring the frame.

if it is an 83 55 cm top tube is either 56 or 58
also note the 83 has the dyna drive pedals, which means different frame size if you change the crank or use adapters if it still has the AX crank
as to whether to buy it.....I have 2 and 84 and and 85 so I am prejudiced 84 is the best bike I have ridden, 85 is next , third place was a de rosa...but it was slightly too big for me so I probably did not get the full de rosa experience, so Iwould say buy it
my two
84 with durace ex/7400 mix
85 with 105 5800

I have a 1989 Team Miyata. Ride is responsive, good handling. I'm comfortable on it (for me, comfort depends a lot on the saddle). It isn't relaxed geometry or longer wheelbase like a touring bike as others have said.

Late to the party on this thread, however I have direct experience with both the splined Team and non-splined 1000. Raced the 1986 Team for 10 years. Made for a great crit bike, yet was happy to glide along 90 or 100 miles. Never found it a punishing ride using 25mm tires, however on 20mm tires it was a rough ride.
Currently I commute and tour on an 85 1000. As I am quite a bit older now and find the 1000 perfectly suited to my riding style and needs. Certainly rides smooth and likes a straight line as well as any touring rig, however it does react nicely to lively input, albeit not as quick feeling as the Team. Of all the race frames I had, the Team stands out as the one I liked the most.
To have both in the stable is a great position to be in. Wish I had kept the Team, but alas it had to go many years ago.
