WTB SX19 Wheel & Hub Help
I bought a like-new set of takeoffs from a private party (WTB SX19 32H) awhile back to use on a commuter / utility bike. Equipped with a high quality 700x40 tire, I put no more than 150 miles on the wheels.
One day the rear wheel felt funny. I pulled it off and spun it in my hands and there was definitely something amuck. I was lazy and instead of taking it apart to examine myself, I brought it in to a tiny local shop that recently opened and left it with them. They called days later and said that the drive (sealed) bearing had cracked and the race and other little spacers/washers were mangled.
The axle and hub body were fine however. The cost quoted for the whole shabang was over $300.00 so we decided it was a throw-away. I’m examining the hub and everything appears to be fine, except for the missing bearing, race and washers.
I called WTB and he said the rim was a WTB, but he had no idea who the hub maker was - and I did not know what brand bike it came from…
So basically, I need a bearing and the other little ditties that disintegrated---The challenge being determining the hub maker.
Does anybody out there have a suggestion on this?

How can we suggest anything when we don't have any idea what you're working with? I will never understand why people will post asking for help on an unknown component and not post photos...boggles my mind.

If you still have the busted bearing, measure it and order a new one from these guys. https://wheelsmfg.com/products/bearings.html
These bearings press fit onto the axle. If you lack the tools or courage, find a good shop to do it. The labor shouldn't exceed $50.00.

It likely has a Novatec hub. It sounds like it's a cartridge bearing, and you can usually read the number on the rubber seal. It's probably a 6011-RS or 6011-2RS. But check your bearing to be sure.

First thing I thought of is $300 to replace a cartridge bearing seems a bit much. Like about 7 or 8 times what I would have thought of. Next was did that shop explain the cost breakdown? The next was is there another shop the OP can go to? If that first shop is unwilling to explain their estimate, in a way that a customer can believe in, they need some customer service training.
To the actual problem- if the cartridge bearing remints can be removed from the bearing seats then installing a new bearing should be pretty straight forward. The bearing usually has its spec number on it, often on the seal. If not measuring the internal diameter, the outside diameter and the width/thickness in mms should be enough info to seek a replacement. While the bike industry offers many common cartridge bearings specific bearing suppliers and industrial suppliers offer a wider range of sizes. Andy
