how cold is it?

not in numbers, but by example, like "it's so cold my car won't start, or the cats won't go out" or a clean joke, like: "it's so cold, eating ice cream felt warm"

hold cold is it?

This winter, it's so cold that my mustache gets frosty. Last winter, it was so cold that Hell opened another furnace. About ten years ago, it was so cold that Hell indeed froze over.

So, not much for me to complain about, this winter, all things considered.

Not cold enough. My chain had a rust slurry on it when I went to clean it after today's ride. Probably rust from the previous ride along with the generous helping of Triflow I use whenever its wet out.

Tomorrow the rollercoaster weather continues. High of 0C, rain, snow, then -20C overnight with an 80 km/h wind powering the temperature swing. Should be nice enough to ride if I finish before noon. I think this has been one of those years where the jet stream keep hopping back and forth. It often runs cuts straight through Saskatchewan. Weather Network used to have a really good jet stream map but they discontinued it. Most others aren't very user friendly unless you are a meteorologist.

Today dog got tired and got after only 4 miles, tomorrow same, next day 20s for the high and -14 and leave the cabinet doors open with water running. Trike batteries inside for sure! So cold the cracking I hear won't be my usual knee noise!

I've gotta get a little colder ... typically -20F/-29C ... and I'm leaving the kitchen cabinet open, running the water ... frozen pipes are THE WORST!! I also close all the window shade over night to help just a little bit.

there certainly is a specific "squeak squeak" isnt there that starts up at, I dunno, -25c?

the other -30c thing I notice is the slight nasal stick together thing that happens when breathing in.

I love that sound! reminds me of my childhood when our Dad would take us to VT for X-country skiing. it was always so cold up there & as a young kid I was always sensitive to these kinds of sensory things. we were from Westchester NY, just North of NYC, where I guess, that sound was rare or nonexistent. last week w/ our single digit & below zeroF days, after our blizzard, I stepped outside & was like "yes!". I love it!

Yes we get that a lot here. The garbage bin makes a horrid noise when rolled out across the snow in those temperatures. The nylon shell of my down jacket makes a loud crinkling noise too.

it is not cold enough to play on the ice in many areas. sad news
A 72-year-old man died over the weekend after a group of skaters fell through the ice on a Northern California reservoir, authorities said.
The body of William Smallfield was recovered from the Stampede Reservoir, about 45 minutes north of Lake Tahoe, on Sunday, the Sierra County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday.

a lake/pond near us which is usually covered w/ skaters & fishermen this time of year was completely barren this past weekend. well, 1 person was venturing out. didn't stick around long enough to watch him more but it didn't look promising

Dang! Weather in Minneapolis has been cold this winter (coldest January in something like 8 years). I rode the City of Lakes Loppet fatbike race on Sunday, roughly 10 miles or the 20 mile course was was on lake ice ... including the start line (pic). The lakes are packed with racers and fans. But climatologists are reporting that lake ice is forming later in the season and ice is out earlier in the spring, making shorter lake ice seasons.
