Handsome cycles Rt32 hubs and wheels

I’m looking at wheels for a hybrid and came across Handsome cycles with these Rt32 rims. They can lace them to Sun CR18 rims. Im not seeing much on the hubs, so was wondering if anyone has any experience with these.

I have a set of velocity dyad wheels with them built by Handsome on my xoxo. Had some issues with the rear wheel spokes loosening up. The rear hub has a unique sound when coasting. Check out the xoxo thread in the classic section. They are not the greatest communicators.

Probably some cheaper rebranded Formula or Novatec hubs or something like that. Nothing really special but could be ok-ish.

What sort of bike are they going on does everything match up what is your goal with this hubs and rims?

Actually the hub pictured is 12 speed, but one they mentioned for build was an 11 speed. These are to go on a Jamis hybrid with 130 rear spacing and a 9 speed. They mentioned that an included spacer would be all that was needed to make these work with the 9 speed cluster.

I was mostly interested in the set because it was reasonably priced and had the slightly wider Sun CR18 rims. I put 35mm Michelin Proteks on this bike which are about 37.5mm wide, so ideally I wanted the slightly wider rim.

I have seen the Wheelmaster economy sets, but for my application they only come with the narrower single wall Weinmann rims which aren’t rated as highly as the Sun rim. My searches then took me to the Handsome site and the Suns mounted to the Rt32 hubs.

I bought a set of Cliffhanger rims laced to Shimano hubs from Velomine a few months back. They're not fancy, but they were a great price and have worked flawlessly so far.

Just looking a bit more at the Rt32s and I see it listed as an alloy axle to go with the sealed bearings. Perhaps this is how the 4 cartridge bearings go in. I am a vintage cup and cone guy, so I’m not real keen on this. Is this an accepted modern way to do things? The wheel set would be well under $200, so the price is attractive. It is for my brother hundreds of miles away though, so I am concerned about durability and spending his money.

I looked at those on Velomine, and they do look quite nice. Unfortunately those are 135old like most hybrid hubs I see for moderately priced sets. I would be more comfortable with those Shimano hubs. Perhaps I will pass on the Rt32s although the wheel set isn’t much more expensive than just the rims and spokes.
