Next Mission: More than 10% Grade

subgrade, I was going to wait for your approval of that abomination but it's 06:00 Riga time and I got a mob forming over here..

I would really like to see a road grade warning sign steeper than 10%.

The south Texas plains are not known for their varied topography. We just don't have much up and down on our ground. Here's a picture from nearby:

Miserable south Texas topography.

I'd like to see a picture reminding me that there's more out there in the world than the paltry grades we have around here. Even one more percentage point will help.

So the mission is your bike in front of a grade warning sign showing more than 10%.

Living on the Mississippi river, the bluffs offer many roads with grades above 10%....signs indicating such steep grades however are not so common.

Yep, that castle will do fine - I imagine there might not be too many Neuschwanstein style castles around in North America

Very few >10% road grade warning sins around here, so I guess I'll sit this one out.

Which would be my assignment, if my submission is satisfactory: that's the kind of picture the city council would put on the brochure to try to get more people to move here or buy things here. So show me something that would be in the travel brochure, even if it's a lie. That pic makes it look like I live someplace fancy... which I don't.
Something really interesting. I just watched a movie the other night and I'm pretty sure this stadium was in there but it was called something else... San Bernadino something. I have to look at the history blurb you wrote up. The movie was on Amazon Prime and it was called "The Pitcher and the Pinup". But then when the movie played the title was actually different at the beginning. Like "Lady Luck and the Pitcher" or something like that. It was made around 1998 or close to that. It was actually a pretty good movie. Like a B movie but it was about this guy that was good at baseball but how the girl he grew up with was really his true love but they never got it right until later in life.

On the road grade warning, can it warn of an UPGRADE?

Seat

Seat placement although not perfect for cycling makes it possible for people like me who have a Foley catheter to ride regular distances.

Extra points for riding with the catheter while riding up or down a 10% or higher grade for the picture of the next mission....
Sorry I couldn't help myself.... Lol

There are some, but nowhere near as many as in Central Europe. We have quite a lot of manor houses, many of which are built like small palaces, but sadly many of these are in various states of disrepair.

I can't think of a warning sign noting +10% grade anywhere near me, and I'm right below Onyx Summit (which sits at 8,443ft.) Highways are limited to 7%, and two-lanes that go beyond that (I know of several places hitting +15%) aren't marked as such. A couple of nearby residential streets are 13% for extended periods, say a quarter mile or more, but no signs indicating it.

I Google-mapped to three local streets I know to exceed 12%, and none of them have so much as a "hey, this street is steep" sign. There's a nearby reservoir access road that hits 25%, but no sign on that one either.

Just rode over to and up (and down) College Street, which is supposed to be the second steepest in town, allegedly 32%. I dunno about that, I just know it's steep. But, alas, no sign!!

We may have met our match. Where I live I doubt there is more than a 5 degree grade anywhere close....

Mission: Slope Sign Countdown

Wow. I figured this would be a slam-dunk for y'all.

I'm thinking the explanation is that it is so flat here, the locals need lots of advance warning of anything that doesn't look like a pool table. So that's why we've got these signs all over..

In the interest of getting this done, I'll adopt a mr. bill countdown:

1/11: 8% acceptable
1/12: 6% acceptable (this is interstate highway max grade so I wouldn't expect to see any lower number)
1/13: Any slope warning at all acceptable

As I said, we've got 'em all over..

We got 'em all over....

Day job and can’t get a good/safe shot at night got in the way, but just a few miles along a ridge is the odd upgrade warning. It’s a short mur (wall) though.
