1981 Raleigh Competition GS
Posting this Competition GS to document the components used on the version of the model that was made in Japan . The bike appears to be original, down to the handlebar tape and reflectors, although the toe clips/straps are missing. The serial number is N1C6206, similar to those mentioned by Hummer and guelphite in a zombie thread last year :starting in post #49

These were also made in silver: Silver GS made in Japan
One noticeable difference between the frames made in Japan and the English frames is the length of the chrome socks. The socks are much shorter on the 531 frames made in Japan.

Whoever last rode this = it was too large for them
Campy Gran Sport drive train with a 42 tooth small chainring
front derailleur needs to be lowered
Use a ball of aluminum foil and some engine oil to clean up the rust spotting

I have the first year of the Competition GS that was a Carlton Worksop build from England , 1977. I love it , and ride it quite often in rotation with the others. Nice bike!

The seller's father bought it at a yard sale and it looks to have spent most of the time in an unheated garage. The grease has been baked until it leaked out and the rust is from condensation. Even so, it should clean up nicely.
