School me on Courses and ClimbPro

I just RTFM (Edge 530, but I think this is universal). It can be a bit terse.

I'm leaving for Crater Lake in about 10 hours and just decided I should learn how to use the above-named features.

Four the course, I (successfully) imported one I created from a ride I did there in 2019. Assuming I did it correctly, ClimbPro is on and should "just work" if I am understanding the feature.

The catch is that we may start the ride somewhere other than where I started it in 2019. If I use a course, am I obligated to start at the course beginning, or can I start anywhere? Since it is a closed loop, it should just circularly permute everything, one would hope, but if it doesn't recognize it as a closed loop, I worry this is asking too much. (My personal "solution" would be to start in the same spot, but I am bringing She Who Must Be Obeyed which will make this more of a PITA.)

It's supposed to understand if you don't start at the right place, or if you take a shortcut or teleport. It just finds you on the route and picks up from there.

It should just happen, so long as the course has elevation data in it (you can confirm in your 530 by loading the course and viewing the elevation profile - at the point right before you start it), you have Climb Pro turned on, and you're navigating the course. That should be all you have to do. You can probably confirm it quickly on foot or in the car with a throwaway course.

When you load the course it will ask if you want to navigate to the start of the course, select no and Edge will recalculate the course based on your position.

Thanks, both of you. I went ahead and made a second course, just in case.

Stupid neighbor's party woke me up at 2:30 am. Hopefully I can get some sleep while I drive there.
