your bike looks and feels like a circa '85 product. dual bottle-bosses mean it's '84 at the earliest. eye-talian bikes of any sort prior to that invariably only had down-tube bottle bosses. the rest of the bits are defintely mid '80s stuff. those CLB brake levers. more than likely its made of SL or some tubeset that's slightly lower in the columbus food-chain (no chrome, which generally went with SL and up on bottecchias back then). since you say it's harsh, maybe MATRIX/CROMOR since that's slightly beefier than SL.
overall, i'd characterize it as an entry-level racing bike.
i'll take a look ad my 2 bottecchias BB shells for serial# info.

I have a Bottecchia Road Bike (bought used) which I don't really know anything about and wonder if anyone can supply any information. The frame has a Columbus sticker on it, but the part that tells what tubing it is has worn off. It's painted a yellow to white fade. The fork is chrome. There is a metal Bottecchia badge riveted to the head tube and a decal "The Professional Bike" on the chainstay. The original parts are all Campagnolo Gran Sport. This dates the bike in that I think those parts were discontinued around 1984. The seat is yellow, plastic, and has "Turbo" printed on it. It is rather heavy and harsh riding with clincher tires, very nice riding with tubulars, very stiff - excellent hill climber, and the best all-around handling frame I have among my road bikes. As best as I can make out, the serial number is M4 7807 85. Any idea what type of Columbus tubing, when is was made, and whether this is a high-, mid-, or low quality frame/bicycle? Thanks for your help.

my BB shells are as follows:
bottom-line: i dont think you can read alot into the serial# for production-dates in any meaningful way. these things were mass-produced by artisans that didnt seem overly concerned with good record-keeping!
- 1990 Team ADR / Columbus SP / 59cm --> SP 2109 59 [picture here - https://brown-snout.com/cycling/bikes...O_bb-info.jpg]
- 1993ish Team SPAGO / Columbus SL / 59cm --> 3905 SL 59 [picture here - https://brown-snout.com/cycling/bikes...R_bb-info.jpg]

Not sure how the mods will respond to the ignore-me posts, maybe better to introduce yourself in the welcome thread or maybe engage with some existing threads.
We all have been there in terms of not having enough posts. It's worth it to reach that level, organically if can.
