Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cannondale R1000 crank replacement

I have a 1999 Cannondale R1000 Triple CAAD3 road bike with I believe all stock components. The middle of the 3 crank gears is really worn down and not really usable. I’m wondering if anyone knows of a replacement middle crank in the set, and where I can get it. Also, would it be worth replacing the entire group set? The cassette is a 9 speed, and I’d be interested in putting on a 10 or 11 speed. Any suggestions? Thanks

I'd stick with the 9 speed. FWIW You might want to move this question to the 'mechanics' sub-forum for more response.

What crankset is it? Is it Coda, Ultegra, 105?
They're called chainrings and depending on what you have they might be hard to find. You can probably use flat rings if you can't find what you now have. You have to use the same bolt circle.
If the middle ring is worn the others may be also, as well as the chain and cassette.
I recently replaced the chain and center ring on an Ultegra equipped bike. I found a used 105 ring which looked different but works fine.
To switch to 10 speed you have to change the shifter and would be a pain and not worth it unless you got everything free.

Looks like it might be Ultegra.
