Yeah so I feel I must share that I F'N QUIT! Yes that's right, I quit drinking coffee completely. This is mostly a big deal because of the strong habit I had (4-8 cups a day) but also because of how ubiquitous coffee/caffeine is in the cycling world.
I honestly didn't realize how good of an idea it was until my first day 'clean'. I seriously felt like CRAP. Headache off and on all day and feeling like I was only half awake. It took about 2-3 days for my body to feel normal, and now I'm feeling great. In retrospect, coffee made me feel really 'up and down', whereas now I feel like my energy is at constant level. Also, coffee was really messing with my gut (which originally was why I wanted to quit). Similarly with my energy, I feel like my gut is relaxed and can do what it needs to do, naturally. Coffee definitely kept me regular, but I've gotten used to going when my body needs to go.
Anyway, I hope this can help anyone else who wants to quit or cut back. Quitting was one of the best life decisions I've ever made, so I definitely recommend it. After a month or so I'll probably have a coffee every once in a blue moon, but in no way do I want to go back to having such a habit.

My Cuisinart grind and brew bit the dust. Suggestions for a good (great) drip coffee maker, with grinder or without doesn't matter? Trying to talk to the wife into an espresso machine too but baby steps..

Off the stuff except for an occasional half cup in the morning.
No more Mexican Cokes. Sigh.
I was having occasional afib a while back. That can happen to folks that do endurance training, so pay attention everyone. Cutting out caffeine helped a lot. Beta blockers also help, but suck when trying to do any intensity.
But at 62 my racing days are over. Just riding for fun now.
Off the stuff except for an occasional half cup in the morning.

This pre-roasted stuff is decent and convenient, but omg. I finally roasted green beans stovetop, and fresh coffee really is a lot better. Worth the effort? Too soon to make a call. But it is pretty damn good.

My old Saeco Vspresso died after almost 18,000 shots.
Now have a DeLonghi MagnificaXS. It makes a great espresso, but I can no longer enjoy them like I used to do.

I like this video. Any other machines that should be considered? As I tend to think this is a 10 year machine the price is a secondary issue. I would like it to be portable / rugged enough to throw in the car for hotel use.

I got all excited about an ECM machine I found on Amazon for $450. It looked too good to be true. It was. Scam to pay with Amazon gift cards. I reported them. I did buy a Rok hand grinder.

As far as heat exchanger E61 machines the Profitec Pro 500 is nice. If you want something a bit narrower (albeit not much) check out the Vibiemme Domobar Junior. I might get one of those of I was buying today. There's also the Breville Dual Boiler if you don't mind the plastic body and slightly weaker steaming power. Dual boiler machines are less fussy than heat exchangers.

1 cup before I ride to work, usually a second/3rd once I get there depending on how tired I am. Co-worker brought in a working coffee maker (something which mysteriously plagued us with its absence the better part of a year) so that's something to look forward to. And on the ride home I stop at Starbucks for visiting and people watching. So...2.5 cups? Starbucks doesn't really count as I really want the milk and sugar not caffeine at that point.
