i did not like the flat bars - so i converted it to drop bars with 10 speed Dura Ace bar end shifters. Running stock wheels with Compass Barlow Pass 38mm tires. Have an Ortlieb handlebar bag and a Revelate Design Pika seat bag for being on the road all day. Exceptional smooth ride. Will try to post pictures tomorrow.
Thanks for your interest.

The handlebar top is about 5 inches above the top of the saddle. It is for comfort. I was having lower back pain. This set up has made a difference.
I think Grant Peterson recommends 2 to 4 inches above the saddle.
and at my age i am not a Tour De France racer.

If you are looking for a couple of W Michigan rides look into the Apple Cider Ride and or the Vineyard Classic both fall rides.

West Shoreline is on my short list. In the past, it always fell on the same week as my family's annual reunion, but no more. So maybe sometime soon I will do it.
ACC - some nice roads and quite a few terrible ones, especially in the last half of the ride; you know, so you remember them better.
VC - Better, but can be hard to get in and out of town due to all the other festivities. The smell of all the ripe grapes in the vinyards is incredible!

I've done the VC for about 10 years. I live just west of Kalamazoo, and have had no trouble both driving to and riding to the starting point.

I would love to try this sometime in the future. I seriously doubt I'm ready to average 60 mi/day. Just returned from vacation about two weeks ago. We rented a place right on the bluffs overlooking L. Michigan about 5 mi north of South Haven. Rode the Blue Star Hwy several time to and from South Haven and then out on the Kal-Haven Trail. Really like the L. Michigan shoreline. Heading to the U.P. last week of September and hope to circumnavigate Lake Gogebic while there, probably around 40 miles or so, so I should be able to handle that... one day anyway.
A bit distant, but here's the South Haven Light from the South Beach side of the channel

I have done SAG for the VC for the last 25 years or so. If you see a black pickup truck with SAG signs on it that is me. Route changes from time to time but should be the same as last year. Glad to give anyone directions to start.
