Addiction 2021.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I looked around and there was a small gap which could have caught a wheel. I was right behind him and I don't know what happened.

A couple years ago I was with him when he tried to follow a car through a gate and the gate came down and hit him in the throat. Last year he crashed when the road narrowed and that time he broke his frame along with some ribs.

Other people have expressed concern about him in the past and today I was watching him and sometimes he seems oblivious to the dangers around him. Everyone likes him, he's a great guy but he worries me.
Glad you made it out for a ride and came back safely.

I would be worried also about riding with your friend.

I did. And I got an e-bike ride in. Not quite what I had in mind, but I left the bike at the shop yesterday and needed to get it home.

Had a good ride. A bunch of my friends did a sub-5 hour century in Delaware. It was a little too much of a time commitment for me, but doing a 4:XX century is on my bucket list. Maybe next year.

I did a sub-5 hour century as part of a fund-raising ride a handful of years back. I'd like to do one solo, though, and have been considering the logistics recently. I'd kind of like to get it done this year, but I'd really need to sit down and plan.

I don't know if there is anything we could do. How do you tell a guy he is a danger to himself and maybe others? Is it just situational awareness?

The US has and will. A friend of mine sailed in the J22 class world championship regatta a few weeks ago with a guy from our area who has won 3 Olympic sailing medals. They won. That's kind of a big deal in sailing circles.
