Newcomb's Ranch was closed all last year and recently re-opened, but I don't know what days. When we first went there it was just the one building on the left, (as you face it) and the food sucked and the whole thing was pretty run-down. The doctor bought it and dumped a butt-load of money into it. Sometimes it's a great place to go and sometimes it sucks and they ignore cyclists. Depends on who is working there that day.
Spent a few hours there drinking Cokes and eating fries before the last few climbs on the way back down.

The newer Fitbit Charge 4 now has standalone GPS (previously it tethered to a smartphone for location services). It also (obviously) does HR, though not as well as a chest strap or good optical armband. Regardless, at ~$150, it's a pretty flexible and inexpensive way of tracking rides/efforts.
I picked up a Forerunner 35 on sale from Garmin. Nice for the no sensors on the bike thing and commuting. I feel naked without a wristwatch, but I'm not wearing the TAG Heuer for wrenching. If the Garmin gets busted up, it's no big deal. Bonus, it tethers to my phone, so I can decline incoming calls without a fuss.

Yes, Hidden Springs Cafe. On Angeles Forest Hwy just before Upper Big Tujunga, near that fire station. The fire station is still there and you can get water there.

btw, How was lower Big Tujunga? Have they worked on it at all? Last summer it was like a bombed out road, nothing but potholes, cracks, and broken asphalt.

probably going to be as expensive as a new washer. I took apart our washers several years back to replace a broken drum shaft (replaced the bearings while at it), and I can truly say it is not a short, nor simple job. Not difficult, and relatively straightforward, but takes a huge amount of time, and definitely mush easier to do with two at times.

I also use bacon grease when browning the pork for Pozole, or Pork and Black Bean Stew, or the beef for Braised Shortribs or Beef and Barley Stew.

...not to mention choucroute garnie, sauerbraten, cassoulet, roasted vegetables of various kinds, all starting with a little bacon or equivalent.

My test saddle arrived. B17 Imperial. Generally speaking, the B17 is too wide, and the one I have I've modified to B17 Narrow specs. But with the cutout and the skirt strings it might be doable. I have a year to find out. The leather is at least as thick as the old one, so that's a good sign. Still made in England, but shipped from Italy.
The knee is about to be put through its paces.

On my Yokota build, I didn't want to drill the frame, so I put the original Shimano Exage single pivot brakes back on. The pads were old and hard and hinted at slowing the bike down. I replaced them with these:
