It's OK, excellent bike, iconic for who pitched it, great colorway.

You could pick up as good a bike, at the time, with better components, for 1/4 the price, then use the savings to go watch the TdF.

Today, with modern upgrades, the battle lines can easily be blurred.

I tried to buy one from the guy in Holland who finds cosmetically challenged Merckx frames and repaints them in this or other iconic color schemes. I made a deal with him in March 2020. For some reason (who can say what might have happened in March 2020 to cause this) there were logistically problems and the frame got lost. He kept telling me he'd find another one in my size and paint it for me, but sometime around September I gave up and he refunded my money.

I was going to suggest that the blue white and red team Motorola bikes were better looking, but I then realized they were early 1990s not 80s bikes. I agree with the other comment that the 89 bike is a bit too christmas, but I recall that I liked the paint schemes on the merckx bikes of the late 80s early 90s era.

I like the 7-11 paint job

1-1.5k premium for that paint. Nope.

I would probably look for a Merckx frame or bike that has beat up paint(hopefully for $5-700 or less). Then there's good painters that should be able to replicate the holiday color scheme for $6-800...

and Bob's your uncle.

I always really liked the looks of the 7-Eleven Team colors. It was probably my favorite color scheme. I then got a Merckx MX Leader Motorola Team bike and that became my favorite color scheme.

COVID Bored? To me those red and green 7-11 colors were nauseating... US Postal wasn't far off either... They were advertising not fashion statements!!!

Personally, I think the pink/red (Kelme?) Merckx are the prettiest of that design.

If we are just looking for a yes/no reply, I'd have to go with ... maybe.

If we are allowed to make an essay question, I'll say that I have a long history of being exposed to Raleigh's marketing material, and therefore have been thoroughly indoctrinated in the cult of the Raleigh Team bikes. I've got one that was built in 1982, so it qualifies as an 80's bike, despite the graphics originating in the 70's.

The Raleigh catalog was my first exposure to the Team and its distinctive graphics. Raleigh was building some eye catching bikes in that era, from the gorgeous emerald green of the modest Super Course, the classic lagoon blue of the Gran Sport, the copper colored "candy" paint on the International, to the legendary blue mink and silver Raleigh Professional. The red/yellow/black team colors used on the Team were just as lovely and prestigious...

The prestige was based on accomplishments, having been raced in the TdF and by the British legend Beryl Burton...

As a proper member of the cult, I've managed to latch onto one of these great machines myself, so I admit to having no objectivity and being fully bewitched by this bike!

Steve in Peoria
(but that 7-11 Merckx is still pretty great!)

I'm with you Steve.
I've come close to buying a Merckx a few times but something (not me or my other half) always got in the way.
There's only 1 more bike I still have a real hankering after and that is an SBDU 753.
In the meantime this one from 1986 will have to tide me over. [Excuse the pedals - seller's image].

I have a 1990 Corsa in 7-Eleven colors, and I can tell you that practically everyone who remembers Team 7-Eleven will come up and talk to me about it and tell a story about the time they met Ron Kiefel or something. I like the color scheme, but I really like that it makes people smile.

$800 never built bare frame in 1993 from the LBS.

Hmm, $2400 with DA, new?

If that’s the case, I’m off quite a bit, as I was thinking $3600

Correction below.

I once facilitated a Battaglin bike for a BF member in the Italian livery. Got to keep it for a week before handing it over. It was a sharp looking bike. I don't think that guy posts anymore. I wonder what happened to him?
