this is not italian, but is my city bike. and it relates to the discussion about some frames not being good conversion projects.
in this case i put bars that are not to far back as compared to say a northbend style which helps with that, and they are velo-orange Postino...so that is the italian part
reset of it is a SR Semi pro, arabesque group, moderen dual pivot brakes, pasela tires and other fun bits

This is my Umberto Dei Imperiale, but it is an older picture. These tires are now worn out and I have to address some rust issues on the rims. So it is now disassembled in the shop. One disadvantage of the rod brakes is that an out-of-round wheel really shudders under braking. When I go downtown for coffee I have a slight descent on the way back that makes this thing shake and wobble pretty bad.

no idea who made my frame, but after some clean up and can of sage green, hung some mis-matched parts on the thing, some decals from the decal box of left-overs
and around town it goes!

So many beauties here, a lot museum quality. I took my Paff out for a ride today in the 33c weather - surprising how well these bikes work as city bikes - the 1949 Humber I rode yesterday (which is regal and smooth but slow and heavy) was great, but the Paff acted like a racing bike with upright bars. Single speed is all you need! 😀

I also like Sport bikes, but they are all 54s and don't fit well.

As for the exact maker of the frame, I'd look at all the big manufacturers. Most offered a Simplex option. But again, not Bianchi and Frejus. Atala, Dei, Lygie, Maino, Olmo, Olympia, etc. But smaller makers made them too.
