What's the opinion on Youtube links?
Is shameless self-promotion discouraged here? I wouldnt be spamming links, just one video a week or so.

Guess it depends on what you’re promoting and how. I’ve seen members post ride videos here.

If it's videos from a "channel" (something that looks like an attempt to make money or is an attempt at driving up views), it might violate the rule against solicitation.
(At the moment, what you are describing appears to be more the second thing.)
(Doing a little bit of research, it really looks to me like the second thing.)
If the link doesn't pertain to a topic, it still could be spamming (the frequency isn't relevant).
"Shameless self promotion" is like the definition of spam.
Would you make a weekly announcement that you have a new video to a crowd of people you don't really know (sounds kind of spammy to me)?

I am not sure, might be worth asking...but you might be able to sig your channel or something for off site viewing. In spite of my long tenure here, I have no idea if it's within the rules so post to the appropriate sub forum and find out from someone official.

You would be much better off appealing to the YouTube algorithm IMO. Google how to do that. I get so sick of vlogspam that I go out of my way to avoid watching videos from links like that, on general principle. I think many share the sentiment. Let YouTube find people who like watching weed smoking bike riding videos and recommend yours to them, by working the YouTube algorithm.
I recently took over a Facebook group that was wall to wall YouTube links; every other bike tourer pumping out the links. The only problem is that the group metrics showed 1-2 active daily users. It was a group full of aspiring YouTubers yelling into the void. Is there a reason to post links if no one's going to click on them?

Someone on this forum used to post a lot of video links. Her climbing hills. All you would see is the front view and hear her breathing. No interesting scenery at all. 💤

After ten posts I guess you can try it and find out. I can imagine legalization of weed posts will stir up a political discussion that will get shut down.
By the way, I usually scroll past video links. If I wanted to watch them I'd go straight to youtube. Just my opinion.

It's such a good point. If I am on Bike Forums, it's because I chose to come here and I'm not really going to immediately decide I made the wrong choice and click away. If I'm in the mood for YouTube, I'll go there and scroll through the suggested videos. People vlogspamming Facebook, forums, etc., seemingly don't understand the power of the YouTube algorithm, as it is how most people find videos. There are steps you can take to appeal to the algorithm, to get it to then suggest your videos to others. Appeal to the robot; don't go looking for a few isolated views on forums.

I know that meant so much to your plan, eh?
I applaud your goal. I wouldn't mind having the time and fitness (not to even mention the funds) to go to various non-prohibition areas and enjoy the local flavors. As to the videos being posted here, I would think it would be a fine line which would likely turn into an issue...in particular when people would be happy to complain just because they don't like people posting videos and such bad bad things....(snort)

If videos are interesting and worth watching people will see them. If you want to make a post about your trip that is cool but just posting links is a bit boring write stuff about it and keep it interesting and maybe link to your channel in that post and if people need to visit they can otherwise it keeps it a bit more low key. Posting every video would get old quick.
I don't do the facebooks or twitter or any of that stuff. This is my main interaction online these days unless I am playing games with friends. I could say a lot of things about the people who run those companies but I will refrain but look up various curse words I am sure you can put a long string of them together and make something good.
In terms of doing a weed tour, you do you I guess. I occasionally partake in edibles to relax but I wouldn't want to ride a bike stoned personally. Thinking I was still on the couch wanting pizza and already having a slice I had cut in my hand with several bites taken out of it would not be something I would want to experience on the road. Be safe and be smart about it.
