Record high of 116 degrees in Livermore, Travis Air Force Base hits 117 as power outages remain a threat

Tonight we dine in hell.
Probably coleslaw.

How about battery-powered heated socks?

Monterey/Carmel is perfect at the moment. Wife and I did 50 miles on Sunday. It was pleasantly cool, albeit crowded. Now it isn't even as crowded.

I've tried a few in the past and none really worked that well. Now that was a while ago so maybe they've gotten better. For those REI ones the reviews are not good.. $100 for the socks and $199 for the batteries that they do not come with..

Sorry. I posted the idea first, and then thought I should find a link. There might be better options out there, but if it doesn't work, it would be a waste of money and time. Maybe we could do a house swap. It is several hundred degrees F here today.

Edit: Just saw someone else posted the same idea a page ago. Sorry. Again.

Right on, I got an early start on all you other losers. Cole slaw for the win. 😁

It's 113°F now, here in Sactown, supposed to hit 117°F a little later.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think someone else was drinking my water today, out of my just replaced water bottle (actually just a grape Power Ade bottle). What the heck is wrong with people? 🤨🤔

Sorry about that. 😟 You can just blame me, I don't mind. 😉

Boy, this thread got busy. I was just sitting here wondering how I got to the 3rd page so fast, then saw about 5 or 6 posts, that snuck by me. 😁

AccuWeather missed it by 1°, lol, it hit 116°F here, too. Which is a new all-time record, for downtown Sacramento. 😲

At least we know cole slaw protects ya from heat strokes, now. 🤔😉

Only got to 111F here in Walnut Creek. Miserable! But at least the power stayed on, fans downstairs help a lot.

It got to 104 by 1 PM in San Mateo yesterday, but then the wind kicked up and it dropped to about 102, then gradually worked its way down to about 97 by 5 PM.

We've been leaving the house open all night to cool it before the next day, and then close windows and doors and lower the Coolaroo shades, so we've been able to keep it under 90 degrees inside, until it "cools down" to that temp outside. Then we open up the house again and start the process over. Every day, the house starts out about 5 degrees warmer than the previous day, though - until today, when it was 1 degree cooler than yesterday morning. No AC, because "We live on the Peninsula! Who needs AC?"

I haven't ridden since Sunday. I don't ride if it's going to be >100, because I'm too old for that ****. So I'm jonesing a bit.

My kid flooded our house on Thursday and contractors filled the house with fans... we used that for an excuse to take a Labor Day camping trip, and then used the Tuesday heat forecast for an excuse to come home not until last night.

We got an email from the kindergarten that there was a fire alarm yesterday. One of the automatic temperature sensors decided it was on fire.

Really glad we were in either Point Arena or inside the air conditioned truck for all this

Well, you should feel fortunate. Not everyone has an indoor pool, lol. 😁😉 Hopefully, no major damage or loss.

I foolishly assumed it would be too hot this afternoon to ride, but now, nowhere along my route is it higher than 95. Oh, well.

Turns out that was probably for the best. It's >95 degrees all along the route I'd be riding. I'm still too old for that ****. I don't have anything to prove to anyone.

The house is still full of fans and the contractors have begun tearing up flooring

Here's a thing, tree branches breaking off, from the heat and/or lack of moisture. This one's fresh from today, and I saw & heard another one, on Tuesday. It sounds a heck of a lot like a tree falling. 😁😉

Just look at the size of that burl, in the upper branches. 😲
EDIT: I meant to say, this is at McKinley Park, on Alhambra.

Well, today’s ride started out nice enough, at 77F. It didn’t end up so nice.

In Saratoga, I thought “Highway 9 is shady, I’ll climb that”. The low temperature on Hwy 9 was 103.

i did 22 miles / 1,500’ at lunch and away from the immediate shore, in the sun, it was starting to get to me at only 85 or so.

You know, other than the hotfoot that wouldn’t go away, it wasn’t so bad. Having one bottle of plain water to pour on me helped.

I noticed, both Tuesday and today, driving North on 280 from 92 to 380, that the hottest places were the highest elevations. On Tuesday, at 8:30 it was already 89 degrees through the highest parts of Hillsborough and Burlingame, whereas when I left the house in San Mateo it was 75 degrees.

Well, after it hit 108°F yesterday, it's finally over. 🥳 Clouds rolled in, and it's supposed to top out at 87°F today. 😎

I took a swim in the American River, late yesterday morning, and it was pretty chilly. I imagine it's probably fed by mountain streams, to be that cold. 😁 Sure felt good though, once you're in it. 👍

Last night was the first ride since Sunday, because I don't have time before work to ride in the mornings, and end up riding after 5, when it's been > 95 in Woodside and Portola Valley all week. It was great to get back out on the road again. Now if only my knee weren't bothering me.....
