Mounting VO kickstand to 90's mtb w/o kickstand plate?

Mounting VO kickstand to 90's mtb w/o kickstand plate?
I bought a Velo Orange kickstand to fully dad-ify my old '93 Rockhopper. The kickstand's top plate seems too narrow to fully bridge the chainstays.
Framebuilder supply has a braze on kickstand plate that looks like it could be bolted to the Rockhopper's chainstay bridge. Could this plate be used as an adapter rather than as a braze on? (I'm not having the frame modified.)
Or best if I just cut down some scrap aluminum I have on hand to make a wider top plate?

It looks to me like the braze on could be used as a top plate. It isn't clear which way up it should be mounted. As it is oriented in the photo some serious point source compression would be applied to the chainstay as the bolt is tightened. Upside down? Get some innertube to pad the chainstays. Are you sure the VO top plate is too narrow? Did you actually fit it to the bike? Are you in Portland? That shop isn't far from my wife's job.

Fabrication would work, but you’d need a pretty thick piece of aluminum, say a quarter inch or 6mm. Can you find a wider plate? Maybe from your shop’s junk bin or a bike co-op? A friend’s parts box?

A kickstand is a theft-promotion device. Find a sturdy post, lean the bike, lock it up.

I have a Greenfield stay-mounted kickstand on my '92 RockHopper and it fits fine; just make sure you pick the right length. Put the V-O stand on another bike. HTH.
