ah ok, I thought the brake track looked carbon as well. Maybe send an email to Trek to see if they can id it.

Hm I thought that if the carbon flexes when pinched and if the spoke holes are much larger than the spoke diameter, it’s fairing. I’m away for the weekend but can take a photo when I return

Well it is a 'fairing' but I'm pretty sure that rim is carbon. That being said I've never seen one like that.
