New Koga for Tokyo: Bike | Project Tokyo

That seatpost ain't slipping:

With Bos and Hoogland being top riders on the team, we can assume that this will come in XL sizes (like 60cm).

The local club that hosts most of the track races posted this up after Glaetzer won his WC, this is from 2009.

He's always been deep, it's amazing how much his position really hasn't changed

James and Anna's hour record rides were yesterday (today...whatever. 3/9/18)
Both set new records, James set the overall farthest distance for an amateur at 49.514, which was awesome. (Well, for everyone not in the 35-39 Masters AG... so boooo )

Thanks! I can finally see some.

The Men's Keirin was pretty interesting with Puerta (COL) riding a great ride to win.

If you notice, the men ride in this 2-wide 2-deep formation for 2 full laps.

In this situation, the Dutch and German riders were on the front fighting for a long time...pulling the British and Colombian riders along. Levy (GER) probably spent the most energy of all. So, all things being equal, the British and Colombian riders are saving energy (relatively). Unfortunately, the British rider is trapped on all 4 sides (rider in front, back, and right side, and cote on the left). Colombia has the best position and comes around to win. The Japanese rider followed Colombia's wheel into 2nd.

Check this though. Dutch and German riders spent so much energy on the front that they actually finished 4th and 3rd respectively. British guy finished 5th.

There was a lot of luck involved. I also fully expected the 2 Dutch riders to cooperate with maybe one leading out the other. That didn't pan out. The 2nd Dutch guy simply couldn't get to the front in order to help. He was off the back most of the time. You can see the first Dutch guy opening a space and looking for the 2nd Dutch guy to come lead him out. 2nd Dutch guy tries to move up. I think he went high to avoid being blocked:

They all saw it coming. Levy (GER) contested him and fought him off. I think that's what caused Levy to say "screw it!" and drag race for 2 full laps.

Oddly, I never would have bet on the Japanese rider finishing 2nd. He had unlucky positioning the whole ride. But, locked on to the right wheel...the winner's.

Definitely a great ride by Puerta -- I didn't watch close enough the first time to catch all that detail. I was rooting for Buchli just because I love his and Beat's Instagram feeds. Looks like he just spent too much time at the front. It's crazy how these world championship races can get decided in seconds like that.

Yup! Rode the hell out of it, too!

Training mode from his Instagram:

Note that he also uses "old style" Easton EC90 Track bars, too. Presumably 38cm.

Proof that "good enough" equipment is good enough.

Yup. As far as the Ukrainian team and generic Chinese frames go, they are on a mix of those frames above (generally referred to as the Generic Alien), and the Generic Cobra frame (DRAG Bicycles - Bluebird).

I wish that their frames were still being made by Antonov, left over remnant of the old Antonov Aerospace from the break-up of the USSR. These were sometimes branded as Elin. I just find it kind of sad when a bike brand dies, and it's always nice to see national team riders riding their own nation's product.

Most of the frames were manufactured from the early to late 90's. I think production of the frames ceased in the early 2000's as Antonov was getting busier with their aircraft and the demand for the AN-225 Mriya was picking up.

This was the typical frame that the Ukrainian team rode in the later years.

That above frame was developed from this pursuit frame

The bars were secured to the fork crown, and the fork was then installed into the frame

This was a prototype of the white frame

And this one was inspired by the Lotus that Boardman rode for his hour record

These were all stock images from the web, but back in 2003 I did get a bit of an education from their riders and coaches into the way the their national cycling team was structured, and the Antonov frames did come up in the discussion. They were really proud of the fact that they were a small underdog team riding home sourced, high tech equipment. Much like the old Metron frames the Greeks rode (These were made by Dimitris Katsanis, who went on to work for British Cycling), their frames were always a conversation point wherever they competed. Even though the new Chinese frames eventually eclipsed the performance and quality of the old Antonov frames, the riders really would have preferred to have Antonov continue making their equipment.

Are those frames UCI approved or is that not a thing in track racing?

They would have been fine ~20 years ago when they were being produced. Nowadays... probably the top Elin would be ok, the others I don't think you'd be able to get away with.

Beautiful frames btw

Oh 100%. My question was more weighted towards the Ukraine rider on the open mould frame

ahh gotcha.

It's a little bit of gray area. Basically if the bike doesn't have the "UCI approved" sticker, so long as it passes a jig it usually gets a pass. (Occasionally it doesn't though.) Pretty much you just have to show up and hope the comm checking the bike is reasonable.

Poking through photos from Worlds and I noticed that the Danish women used Scattos. Ha. So, at this point, all bars can be considered appropriate for the Madison.
