"cable" ANT+ to BTLE bridge and cadence cycling app
my specialized bike outputs power, cadence, and speed on ANT+ but not bluetooth - or rather not by standard bluetooth protocols.
i wanted to try out some other cycling apps, so i picked up the North Pole Engineering "cable" ANT+ to BTLE bridge. so far my experience has been very good. the cable device itself is tiny and weighs almost nothing, goes in a pocket with no fuss.
seems to wake up automatically when bluetooth is activated on the phone and the cycling app is started, and remembers the pairing to the bike's ANT+ (not really pairing, just listening) and my heart rate strap sensors when the bike is turned on. there's a delay of perhaps a second, most noticeable in the power readings which stay "0" for a second or so after a hard start.
the cadence app is fantastic, fully configurable screens with data from the phone or the bike, dark and light mode, seamless garmin varia overlay, very easy to use. i like having power as the biggest number, along with average for the whole ride and 10 second power:
Here's a very boring screen recording of a ride around the block:
Cable+Cadence Test Spin
so far the only problem I've had is that once I left the bridge with the bike and phone, with the phone turned on, for a couple days and it drained the battery. not sure if the battery it came with was already a little depleted, but since replacing it i haven't had any battery issues.
