Addiction 2022.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yup. At least three over the years. One ended up getting fired. They didn't seem to understand, for example, that if their annual billings were $200,000, and they had no book of business, they could not be paid $300,000 or even $200,000.

In fairness to them, they don't teach much maths in law school.

The concept that when you work for someone else you have to produce more than you take out is a difficult concept to understand.

Our younger, employed physicians make more than us senior partners. It’s an unfortunate reality.

I went solo just to get out of that type of situation. I have no desire to work just to employ people. In other words, I'm not going to work to make less while paying someone who does less more. I'm not going to employ anyone who does not work to help me make more, but I've always provided very fair compensation for the level of work and type of firm that I've had.

My observation is that most people think everyone else is overcompensated, and they're undercompensated. And/or, they think most people are making more money than they actually are.

No, just think if they brought back 9-speed gearing using the new narrower chains and thinner cogs, they could make the cassette more compact and eliminate many grams from the overall weight of the bike. It would be revolutionary.

I actually think my compensation is just right for the job I have.

My folks were the same. I got a nice inheritance, by my standards.

And I, on the flip side, am still paid like QA but now being told to do the work of a senior dev. Whole different level of stress and responsibility, and I’m already having to hand-hold new hires with higher titles and presumably more pay who can’t pay attention to necessary details or even submit their code half the time. This is why I am ungruntled.

Started the rebuild on contador last night. I decided to leave the shifters mismatched, it's only the graphics on the shift paddle and brake lever. I need to wash the frame and wheels before I start recabling it. Shifters and derailluers are on. Looking forward to riding it again as a cable actuated bike.
Also learned last night the brake cable housings I recieved with the shifters that I was going to use on the Blue Tarmac is 8" to short. Ordered that this morning.

It's so weird thinking about how modern I thought 9 speed was. I didn't even get to wear out my 8 speed stuff and I was upgrading my Felt.
