Ill-Iowa Quad Cities bicycle death zone
There have been 5 riders killed in a very short time here in our area. One was a rider killed by a policeman answering a call. Another was killed by a driver at 1.30 am . on a bridge with wide shoulders' The driver received 2 traffic citations. Improper lane usage and driving on shoulder. ********** We have a quite active "good ole boys" network in this area .

Can you tie the "good ole boys" comment into the fatalities?

So what is your solution for those things that will advance advocacy and safety? Or is this going to continue to be sub-forum with some kind of morbid cyclist vs motorist scoreboard or just simply an obituary column?

Sorry I posted this info in the wrong area. Not sure there is a right area. This is a disadvantage of being old and slow with puter threads.
When these accidents do happen I'm sure there is much grief and remorse on the driver, but simple traffic citation? really???

Same should be the case for any other situation where somebody is equally dead because of such actions, whether cyclist, pedestrian or anyone else.

Didn't somebody ask why aren't road penalties higher?
I guess in some jurisdictions, human life just isn't valued.

Motorists who cause death to other motorists and their passengers seem to get automatically charged by the police. Whereas, when cyclists and pedestrians are the victims, the incidinces are investigated.

Hmmm. That's not my observation. Unless the operator was impaired, I can't recall any driver facing criminal consequences. We rarely learn of the civil outcomes. Th vibe I get from reading of bicycle victims of non-fatal hit and run accidents is that the cops aren't going to do much legwork.
