nishiki team issue
Drove almost 2 hrs. to pick up this:
56cm frame, tange prestige double butted tubing, cinelli bars and stem (which is oddly short, 60-70mm), rims say "aero dynamic ambrosio 19 extra", tire are tubular I believe, wright saddle. The Dura ace on it is 7400. Frame serial # is WE22269.
I also picked out this from the box of old cycling bags, bottles, gloves, etc.:
sorry for the blur -
what's up w/ the short toe clips? What tool might be missing?
I paid $85 for the bike + stuff...deal?
Frame is too large for me, so I will probably part it out, and keep some of it for future builds.
Is there a market for old tubular rims w/ dura-ace hubs?

Great find, that's one of the nicest Nishiki's I've seen. Do you know the year?

Yeah, I tend to agree. I'm not sure how much value there is in these old parts. Most of them sell for $20-$40 or so, whereas old road bikes like this, when cleaned up, seem to fetch quite a bit more on eBay. As bikesnob accurately observed, vintage bikes are the next "in" thing.

I think it's an '85. I would gladly sell it as is, but I think the tubular rims will make that difficult. I would rather not ebay it, but may end up going that route.

The same basic DA that came on my Paramount. Cleaned up she'll be a beauty. The crankset alone is worth $100.

It was in one of his interview podcasts. I think there are only two out there. Anyway, they ask him what his prediction is for future cycling trends, and he predicted that vintage and vintage-styled road bikes would be popular. He's obviously right, and anyone looking at photos from the NAHBS can tell you that's the case. Bike shops haven't sold this many wool jerseys and Brooks saddles since 1979.

Very nice, irrespective of whose "team" spec'd it.

The tires were so tight on the rims I thought they were glued on tubulars...but it turns out they were clinchers with very thick thorn proof tubes. So now I'm good to go if/when I re-sell it.

My team was sponsored by West Coast Cycles in '87 and '88 and we rode Superbe Pro equipped Nishiki Comp III frames. In '88, I also had an Ultegra equipped Team Pro frame which had a beautiful pale blue to white fade paint job. I'll have to look for a pictures one of these days and scan them.

The weight is ~21 lbs.
Also, upon cleaning I noticed the front brake caliper is missing a conical lock nut?
the rear has one, you can just see it:
Know of any sources for that nut? Got any spares?

I noticed the nut missing in the first set of photos, i also noticed there doesn't seem to be much thread there for it... did someone rebuild the brakes and add an extra spacer perhaps?

no, I tightened the nut and now there is enough thread for the missing part. I guess it worked loose and fell off.
