Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Is $12.5/gram saved good?

Haha! Yeah, I know it sucks when considering $50 in dollars-per-gram terms, but there was also an aesthetic consideration I had to address, so I’m actually just fine with the cost of the remedy.

And that remedy was a new Engin single-bolt seatpost clamp in purple. It replaces a no-brand, Thomson-style clamp I sourced off eBay for $12 or something, and which I’d selected for the initial build of the frame because it was a matching matte black finish. I wanted to try on the “stealth look,” but really, it’s not my jam, and I found the black clamp an annoying transition between the frame’s bead-blasted matte grey and the sheen of the purple anodized post.

The Engin clamp smooths the seat cluster visually and adds a little pop to the area. I weighed the 31.8mm collar at 18g with the stock steel bolt, and 17g when I swapped in an oil slick anodized Ti bolt. The old clamp was 21g with Ti bolt. Whopping savings, I know.

There’s really nice detailing and machining to the Engin, and the hue and finish match the Paul post perfectly. I’m a happy camper now!

I likes! One rule I have when changing out something on the bike is it has to be lighter than the old part.

Rules are so often not fun, but that is a fun rule!

Thanks, and yeah, it may have been awkward were the post and clamp merely close in color rather than exactly the same hue.

Nice. Drew makes some beautiful parts. His frames are pretty nice, too.
