Why do we feel better after a ride only after we shower?

In biking we don’t get runners high. I’m not sure why. Even when going up a big hill, still no runners high. But many of us say we feel better after the ride, once we shower. That is also the case for me. I don’t start to feel the increase in energy until I shower. Is it just mental?

I think I feel better after a shower no matter what I just did.

Speak for yourself, because I get my high every time I go for ride.

Not sure why I feel so much better after a shower, but that is true for any exercise I do. Biking, running, lifting at the gym...

I’ve only experienced a runners high a few times. I’ve never had the same thing happen on a bike. But what is a high is riding downhill on a mountain bike.

Cold showers to reduce core body temp always leave me in a better mood.
Also helps with inflammation. An ice bath would be better.

I thought that was Joe Walsh.

John Denver spoke to God, and I'm pretty sure he was dead sober.

When you exercise, you sweat, and toxins come out through the skin. You may feel better after washing them off.

I find heat drains my energy more than exercise. Having a shower and cooling off, normally makes you feel better.

I find running so intensely boring that I can’t imagine ever getting a high from it. Skiing and DH mountain biking give me a high. Road cycling not really, but it does clear my mind.

A refreshing shower always feels good after sweaty exercise.

Jos Walsh sang of the Rocky Mountain Way and definitely did LOTS of drugs.

Ive seen them both in concert actually. Good times.

"We" get endorphin rush during the ride. Try riding a little further.

"We" do not shower after a ride.

Another false premise thread.

Many nights on tour I don’t get a shower. Those are often the nicest campsites. I feel better when I am in the environment.

Wait until you experience that, "riding downhill on a bicycle, achieving a PR top speed, & a Buick's front end quickly pokes out & bods down past a stop sign from a side street" high.
Almost like an out of body experience feeling...

I get that rush of a high in the a.m. after a good large mug of coffee. Then I feel like a million bucks after a hefty poop. So many toxins leaving at once is a major load of relief!

He also got rained upon inside his moving car; which was nice because it didn't spoil anyone else's day.

I have a great high after a great ride on a beautiful day. Or a faster than normal ride. Or after climbing a hill faster than normal...

U.S.F.S campgroujd Dorr Skeels off Rte. 56 in the Cabinet Mountains of Montana. Closest town is Troy. Gladly trade a shower for that any day. Cool breezes would swell up out of nowhere and blow across the lake right at me. Perfect campfire conditions.

You based this thread off some curious reasoning.

Or when you come around a bend in the forest at 25 mph, a grizzly and get mauled to death like that poor guy did a few years ago near Glacier National Park.
