Someone Explain To Me The Sudden Prevalence Of Someone Explain To Me Threads

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why do we care so much what others do?

It’s a common symptom of COVID which causes people to scold and judge others.

If I had to take a guess it's because we live in a "look at me" society now. How else can you explain the rise of Strava, Facebook, etc.? People are trying to make their lives look better in other people's eyes. Being ordinary or average is not in style.

Covid-19 might have something to with it. People that haven't been riding much for decades, are now starting to ride again. They are noticing that some things have changed, and wondering why.

I've noticed that i've become a grumpy old man and realized that I won't change anything and should stop wasting my time caring what others do.

Ride the wrong way, not wear a helmet, not wear gloves, hang you bike by the front wheel, too much air pressure, use a hitch carrier when it will fit inside, glasses under straps, handlebar bag, street cloths, tinted door windows,... i'm sure there's more, but that's all i can remember over the past few days of posts on this forum.

It's like a Jerry Seinfeld routine in here - "What's the deal with handlebar bags?"

First step is to recognize the problem.

Because this is BF. Whatever topic you bring up, you’re going to get every aspect f it explained in detail whether that’s what you wanted or asked for or not. So you might as well ask for an explanation anyway?

I like "someone explain to me" threads.

Help clarify things that puzzle me.

When did other cyclists start this "waving" thing? At first I thought they were waving at me because of my dashing good looks. Then I realized those that wave were doing it at everyone. Strange.

Because people who have ridden more miles than we've been alive (still trying to figure out the conversion factor for that!), are very concerned about what other people are doing on their bikes!!

ikr? I try to bite my tongue, but whenever I see a "serious" road cyclist riding with locked arms extended, I want to yell "point those elbows!"

Sigh.

Because it's late September. And Covid. Might get worse as the winter wears on.
