Re-cabled my Bianchi and new seat post...Much needed change......

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The before picture has to have the worst cabling job I have ever seen. Good job on the new ones. Your new saddle position seems to be a pretty big change, hope it works out for you.

Now if we can just get those valve stems in the same position and the chain on the big ring...

Saddle position in 1st pic i believe is how I purchased it. I paid for a bike fitting about a month after I got the bike.... Its through that bike fitting that I changed to the current set up, except I have moved the seat just a bit for forward since then....it has made me feel more "centered" on the bike.

The first picture looks like a torture device.

I'm confused - did you build it? You noticeably have a lower and shorter stem. On the first picture it looks like it's more suited for a more relaxed-tourer.

My understanding is he bought a bike from the most clueless LBS possible.

Clueless LBS? How do they stay in business? That's downright incompetent. The bike looks great!

If the stem needed to be shortened by as much as it has & slammed, it indicates that he bike is the wrong size; add to that the change from a layback to straight seatpost, all adds upto the frame being too big. The bike look like a very large size, and there's not much seatpost exposed, look at the Bianchi website, to get an idea of what it should look.

Guys...

I bought it used from a friend of my wifes son..needed money for college type thing...My wife agreed in to the purchase really before I could say much...

The frame is a 55cm... I am 5-10 1/2.. with a 30" inseem.. my arm are not the longest either.. and I am fat.

I think I should be on a 53.. but this one does fine. I ride for 1 to 2 hours 3-4x a week and I do fine.. So far i have lost 40lbs..with another 30lbs to go. Once I do that I will be looking at a new bike.

You might want to do a doubles check on that size...I have that same bike and that sure looks like a 61cm to me

5'10 with a 30" inseam. So I take it you have shorter legs?

OOOOFFAAAA.. you guys are almost right (and quite astute!)....I measured from the center of the BB to the top of the head tube quickly and I get 23"... which makes it a 58cm...

Yes, I have short legs......

Well, I am stuck with it till I sell it... anybody want a 58cm Bianchi??

If you are reasonably comfortable (over that kind of mileage), I'd say you're good for now. And I'd say they did a good job of getting a larger frame to more-or-less fit you. But your next frame should clearly be a size smaller (as a starting point). Congrats on the weight loss!

You'll be okay for now esp. since you got a fitting. My pops got me a 61 thinking I'd grow, but I now ride a 56 grr. Rode that bike for a good 10 years with a super dinky stem. Finally got a 56 when I got out of college and suddenly knew how a bike was supposed to handle.
