Okay, I'm probably barking up the wrong tree, because I can not find a thing on the interweb for sale that will work. I'm looking at a Zipp 900 to use on my Dixie outdoors, and on my TT bike. I know it has the 182 hub, and Zipp only makes (currently) a conversion kit for the 188 hub. Does anyone have either a workaround, or a 182 hub conversion kit that they don't need? Muchos gracias.

Tried to find one for 182 for almost a year. EBay every weed search (none), last units on all sites with 182 adapter pages (zero availability), "new release soon" announcement from a guy that promised to take this "market" (emailed, gave me price and first production lot dates - never built) etc etc.
Sold the 900.. and if I decide to go same way would buy a 188 hub disc... :-(

I'm thinking I'm going to look elsewhere. I wish Zipp supported their products a little better. Maybe they do, but it seems to me there's a bunch of used 900 out there, and I've seen other folks looking for the hub conversions.

Best bet is to set an alert on ebay for when one gets listed, and also keep a vigilant eye on facebook groups. This is sort of a "Unicorn" item now unfortunately.

Yeah, I gave up on it. I need a wheel sooner than the next ten years, unfortunately. I am frankly a bit surprised, as I've said, that Zipp doesn't support their legacy products a little better. It's not like they're inexpensive!

eBay is worthless for this (and generally becoming pretty worthless for bike parts in general, IMO).

Your best bet is to post a Want to Buy ad on several forums: Pedalroom, Paceline, Slowtwitch, Weight Weenies, as well as the Facebook buy and sell groups. I posted such a WTB ad last year and had three offered to me with in a few hours.

As a service rep for a company that deals with legacy items every day, I'd like to remind ya'll that stuff gets old at a certain point, and even if it isn't worn out, there is no benefit for the company to keep producing spares for it. The 900 disc was originally debuted in 2003 according to their timeline. I say this to give some perspective. I'm not trying to start an argument, or to shame anyone.

I also gave up on the Zipp 900 track wheel dream after I couldn't find an adapter. Harrumph.

A poster on this site made some adapters for a trainer (Lemond as I recall); perhaps he or someone else could make an adapter for your wheel. Before I retired I could have designed and made an adapter. This approach probably is not cost effective however.

You will not be able to find this part from Zipp. I bought a Zipp 900 from a VP of SRAM/ZIPP via the slowtwitch forum. I mentioned that I needed the track hub. Understandably, he's like, "No problem. I'll ask around and get one for you."

Was not able to get one for me.

So, if an exec at Zipp can't get one, we cannot get one.

I called Colorado Cyclist, Competitive Cyclist, Wheelbuilder.com, RA Cycles and a few other huge Zipp retailers as well. Nothing to be found. I got LOOK 496 seatpost and stems easier than getting that axle.

Your only hope is to be extremely lucky and hope someone has one in a parts bin or on a broken wheel.

Learn from my years of hunting down older, non-modern bike parts, camera gear, car parts, stereo equipment, sewing machine parts, etc...

If you really need it, it's simply easier and more cost-effective (in a time = money way) to buy modern.

Modern? This wheel is still available from Zipp, is it not? Sorry, chafing a bit at this as my new-in-2014 Zipp 900 is by far the most "modern" pice of kit on my bike, haha! But seriously, there must be track axles gathering dust in literally hundreds of triathletes' closets. Must be some way to ferret them out.

Yes, Zipp still produces the 900 track disc, but they updated the hub for 11-speed cassettes and the newer axles work with it. The problem arises if you buy one of the older 10-speed versions, which are getting quite cheap.

But as I said, I posted a want to buy ad a year ago and got three offers within a day.

Zipp has two hubs for the 900 series of discs (@carleton, I've been seriously digging, as you have). The "182" hub is the older one, and the "188" hub is current. I called Zipp and asked them about it. I was told that the easiest way to identify which hub the disc has is by the color of the hub assembly. If it's silver, it's a 182 hub. If it's black, it's a 188. The 188 track adapter has a black "cap" on one side, too, so that's a give away on the adapter.

I've given up on the idea of a Zipp 900 for road and track. I bought a "Selcof" disc from Planet X (it's a "tension" disc, like a HED, no foam inside it), which goes with my Planet X five spoke (I was speaking with someone about OCD and needing things to match just recently....), and I will use that combo outside. I'll use my FFWD disc and five spoke combo (with the Vittoria Pista Evo's) at VSC. For my TT bike, I'm not racing it this year, so it can wait for a disc. In the past, I've been using a Wheelbuilders jacket on the Open Pro/Powertap wheel for racing on that bike, and if I need to, I can do that.

I'm not sure how you TT bike is set up, but the 182 hub is 10-speed only and cannot be converted to 11. The 188 is 11 speed.
