Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

is this still rideable?

specialized turbo cotton 700x26

still a tiny bit of the wear dots visible, but just noticed that a bit of the outer (black) part is delaminating from the inner (tan) part.

this is the rear, i’d be too chicken to risk it on the front but even in the back i don’t really want it to assplode 50 miles from home tomorrow. tire has approx 1,050 miles on it.

50 miles away from home I wouldn't want to risk having to find another tire. So unless you carry a spare tire with you, I'd change it out now.

But I wouldn't be worried about it assploding, if that is to be taken to mean you expect some sort of chain reaction to take place causing you great harm. I'd only expect it to either flat or hear some rubber slapping on a frame or stay. Hopefully I wouldn't ignore that too long before investigating.

How about some rubber cement or patch glue.

Back In The Day....

Clean it up with acetone then a little vulcanizing cement and put it together after dry. No biggy. If it fails? Hey, I heal fast...

But now days...

Ii could be a sign of catastrophic failure and the old body cannot handle that. Take the tire off and do a complete inspection inside and out before proceeding. If any question as to its integrity then replacement for sure!

thanks everyone. i was able to make it to the shop today and these are readily available, so i changed it in advance of tomorrow's ride. tubeless conversion will have to wait another 1,000 miles.
