Witnessed a bike thief get street justice !

I was ripping around Toronto real late...1am on a Wed as I was off the following day.

I was sitting down on a bench having some water when a thief walked up to what looked like a Fuji feather with a bolt cutters.

Two dudes got off a city bus and attacked this guy. Brutal beating !

The thief was eventually unconscious and naked.

What was wild was that one dude could really box as the thief was held up and the dude was doing some combination punches on the unconscious and naked thief !!

I finished up my water and rode off.... As I passed the ko'd thief I wondered ... What's better ???? Calling the cops for them to show up 30 mins later if at all??? Or administering the punishment on the spot ?

Seems a bit extreme, but I like the idea that someone stepped up and did something.

If you seriously think this is a real question, you've got...issues.

It's a real question. What is the point of being calling the cops??? They don't care.

What if it was his bike and he had lost the key. Stupid to maybe kill someone over a bike.

More expensive thefts tend to get more police attention. This was likely in grand larceny territory (a felony), so naturally it provided more impetus to investigate.

If you can’t recognize the myriad problems with vigilante justice, i’m not going to bother trying to explain them to you.

I expect tales like this to begin with "once upon a time."

I realize this is almost certainly complete B.S., but in the off-hand chance it was real, do you think punching someone who is unconscious is acceptable, even within the logical confines imposed by vigilantism?

At that point, this definitely turned into a lynching.

If you just watched that and just rode off leaving the guy without assistance, shame on you. At least call 911.

Disgusting. You ... not the parties involved (if indeed this were an actual incident, which is very doubtful).

PSA: Take a picture of you with your bike now. And have that picture with you.

If you do need to cut your lock, you can prove it's your own bike.

There is over 100 murders in Toronto each year, do you think the police actually care about a stolen bike?

You are right.

Best to administer the beating on the spot

All too often the police do their jobs only to see the criminals released without punishment by the courts and their politicians...er um...officials.
Taking matters into one's hands is the result of a court system that is all about pushing a political agenda instead of following the rules of law.

And that is if the police do their jobs. If I'm in KCMO, I have very little trust in KCPD to do anything. Conversely, Leawood PD across the state line has historically been reliable. If something happens to me on the bike, my next decision is often based on my confidence in the local police.

I cleaned up the thread. Talking about locations that are red/blue and guns belong only in P&R. Let’s keep discussions on advocacy and safety

But posts advocating for vigilante beatings are left alone? Seems weird. Extra-judicial justice seems rather political.
