Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

what year is this Roubaix?

A friend had medical issues and can no longer ride, so I inherited his Roubaix Pro. He doesn't remember what year it is, and the archive on the Specialized website doesn't go back far enough. Does anyone know what year it is?

Thanks in advance.

cb400bill -- The '08 Roubaix Expert in your photo does look pretty similar, but it is blue with white trim. I haven't been able to figure out whether that bike came in black with white trim, which is the color of my "new" bike.

With some more digging, I did find this 2019 resale listing for a 2007 Roubaix Pro (or at least that's what the ad claimed it was). The frames in this photo (below) and mine (above) seem to match in every detail, down to the weird-shade-of-yellow Zertz inserts. The groupsets and wheels are different, but that isn't surprising for a pair of 15-year-old bikes. Absent further evidence to the contrary, I'm gonna assume this is what I have.

Is the serial number not on the bike? I'd think a Specialized dealer might be able to look that up for you. If not, email Specialized and maybe they'll answer. Knowing the year model is probably overrated, IMO. For servicing the components, the part numbers on the DR's, cranks, brakes, STI's and etc. are what matters.

When I signed up for an account on Specialized's website and put in my bike's serial number it gave me all the info about my bike. Though my bike was new at the time. Don't know if their SN look up goes back forever. And if a previous owner registered it, then it may not show up for you.

That is a 2008 Pro. Specialized's Bike Archive runs out of gas at 2007 but you can find plenty of photos on the web. I have a 2009 s-works and that's the year that they started with the full ribbon paint/decal from top tube down the fork. If you look for photos of 2007 Roubaix, I think you'll find that they all have a flat/level top tube. But look for photos of 2008 and you'll see that the lower end (up through Elite, I believe, still have the level top tube while the higher end (Pro and s-works) have a bit of a hump in the top tube. That and the paint scheme tells you that you have a 2008 Pro.

[Edit] I take it back. That's a 2007 Pro. My observations about top tube also apply to 2007 and the '08 Pro had black/red paint scheme.
