good solutions - DIY for Handlebar-extension - customizable -

hello dear bicycle-friends

its summertime - and i am ready to prepare my roadbike for a bikepacking tour. I am pretty new to this - and therefore i just did some seárching for good solutions - eg. DIY - that would be fine.

just came across a very interesting Bike Handlebar Extension (customizable) by francescofeltrin SOL75

it can be customized

How to make a 3D printed bike handlebar extension with SOL75.
Total mass about 100g (3.5oz), rated for bags up to 2kg (4.4lb).
If you want to make it for your bike, find the design available in the customizer:

I would be leery of anything 3D printed for this application.

I am not sure what your overall goal is with the "handlebar extension" and how you intend to use it with "bags", however...

When I was researching bikes one of my riding partners mentioned having the steer tube of the fork cut "high" instead of sized up and cut to size. A tall steer tube can be tamed with spacers, its kind of hard to go the other way.

With a tall steer tube you can add a 2nd stem. On that 2nd stem you can put a dummy bar for... bags and accessories.

This is what I did on my touring bike and I have enjoyed using it. The 1st dummy bar I put on was too short. It was sized to fit between the loops on my drop bars. I added a mirror to the left side and when I loaded up the bike the mirror was too far in to see past the gear on the back. So I extended it I want to say 6-10" more. I have just enough room to see in the mirror past my gear without being too obnoxiously wide. It does stick out there, but I'd rather have it set up that way than not have the visibility.

Food for thought.

Does seeing these assist? I use one to hang an Ortlieb bar bag off

To clarify, I uutilise a different length, but entering Thorn T-bar into the sites search engine should bring up the available choices

Those are pretty cool! It seems to me I looked at some commercial options like that a while back.

They certainly would do the trick for a bar bag and accessories - like a phone mount (RAM maybe with a long arm), bell, etc. However, they will not work for a mirror to get your view around your gear on the back. You may be able to modify it with an extension out of one side or the other (left makes most sense, unless your country has traffic on the left side of the road instead of the right) to mount the mirror to.

More food for thought.
