65 cm 1984 Specialized Expedition

12/27 SOLD EDIT 12/09/2022 Now $750! Before I go put this on the Bay I'll try a price drop here. Was asking $850 net to me plus shipping, now asking $750 net plus shipping at actual cost. One sold on the Bay last week for $795 + $175 shipping, but with old tires, no lights, shot brake hoods, no rear rack (but w/2 cages) -- I think that was a nice example, but this one is nicer. Shipping is almost certainly going to be a lot cheaper than the one that sold on the Bay as I'm only charging actual shipping cost, my careful packing is free. Feel free to ask for a shipping estimate.

For sale is a really nice 1984 Specialized Expedition, in great condition, The Expedition is 65 ctc, 60 tt. It has brand new 35c Gravel King tires on it now, with plenty of room for fenders. Some minor scratches from the years of previous owners storage, but really clean, and stock -- including the fantastic Specialized touring pedals! Almost not ridden at all. New brake hoods. Sanyo BB generator light set works great -- I put in LED bulbs, which makes it a lot better than stock. Original Specialized water bottle has a cracked lid from age (bottle looks hardly used) , and is not really usable as an everyday bottle, but is included as it is neat. $850 net to me plus shipping. Careful packing free of charge!

From the ground to the very top of the brake cable housing on the top tube is just under 36" (or about 91 cm).

Oh man, I have a 36” inseam. Hmm… this is very tempting. But I would have to clear some room. Hmm hmm hmm. Good to know.

Did some bike geo research and comparisons and have to admit to myself that a 65cm frame is probably just too big.

It is a beaut, and I could probably make it work. I just don't have the budget for (or a wife who understands my need for) another bike at the moment. The wife understanding my "need" is why I'm slow rolling the build(s) I currently have in the queue.

Yeah David, I have the bigger and taller 68cm Expedition.

To JulesCW, that is a very nice example of a well taken care of Expedition. Good luck with the sale.

Quick question. Would you mind sharing your source for the led bulbs? I received the same generator/lights on the pay it forward thread, and would like to upgrade..

I watched that one on eBay get sold. That, and this one, are my size. I had the 62cm (CTC) version before and needed more seat tube, but it left an impression (it was a 1983 with longer point lugs). So naturally yours intrigues me greatly. Presently I am not in a position to bring aboard another bike. I'd need to sell one (I have two for sale right now) to theoretically have room, so as others have said, I wish you the best with your sale of this rare beauty.
