Wanted - Tall Frame, Good Chrome, Bad Paint
FOUND For details see post #34 in this thread.
Looking for a tall frame (60-62cm center to center) with chrome socks and head lugs for a peculiar paint project I have in mind. Chrome has to look nice but doesn't have to be perfect.
Allegro, Mondia, Raleigh International, Frejus, Girardengo, Carlton, Ideor, and many others I'm sure.
Lightweight tubing and forged dropouts a plus. Frames from the '60s and earlier especially encouraged to apply, but I'm not ruling out newer frames.
Please don't offer me anything with nice paint. It would be a shame to strip a nice original paint job.

I have a Clive Stuart. It doesn't have chrome, but it has bad paint. It is from the late 1950s/early 1960s. No forged dropouts. Reasonably light.

You are welcome to this Velo Sport "Prestige" frame and fork set. The tube set is chrome moly, Tange #2 I believe. The drops are forged Shimano, I believe. Yours for $75.00 US plus the cost to ship. If interested, send me your zip or postal code and I will estimate shipping cost. Here is a picture of the bike uncleaned. If interested, let me know and I will harvest the component group for a future project. clean the frame fork up and get some good pictures for you to view. The paint, art and chrome is in pretty good shape but I will know more once a apply a coat of elbow grease. I should add that I have owned a "Prestige" in my size and the bike is a nice riding machine...

I hope you're doing well. I'm honestly still not sure whether I want to keep and restore or just move this frame along but am willing to offer it to you right now since I know you appreciate these things! This is my uncle's 1972 Raleigh Professional that I mechanically restored and rode for a couple seasons a while back. Because of the racy geometry it really rides wonderfully and can be a bit twitchy but is very responsive for acceleration and tight turns... Currently it's stripped down to the bare frame and fork in the condition as shown in the photo below. The fork is a replacement and was the wrong color so I rather carefully sanded the paint off, but there might be a couple little scratches on the crown area which was originally exposed chrome. Otherwise, the chrome on the lower part of the fork and rear triangle is in great condition.
Importantly, the headtube has a little bulge near the top (just below the lug) from an accident that happened decades ago but the frame appears straight overall and has ridden perfectly fine on many a rough and long road in recent years. I had planned to take a mallet and slide a steel tube into the head tube and pound it smooth before repainting in the future. It's minor but annoying if that sort of thing bothers you.
Because of the little bump in the head tube, I'm willing to part with the frame and fork for $250 + shipping (which should be about $60 or less since you're on the west coast, based on recent experience shipping to Portland from my place). And in fact my wife and I will be in San Francisco in two weekends (29th-30th) and I would be happy to bring it along and take half an hour out of either full day to pass it along.
EDIT: Derp! Almost forgot... It's the 24.5" c-t size, with a 23" c-c top tube.

I got it
I have just the bike you’re looking for. Italvega Super Record. 61 cm center to center. This bike was chromed and then painted over making the paint coat shine from underneath. Campy bottom bracket and headset.

That Super Record looks just like my Grand Rally . It is all chrome under the paint. I know because mine came to me VERY rusty and the chrome plating kept the rust from going too deep into the steel. I love my ItalVega, the bike is one of my favorites!

Doh, I totally missed the request for chrome head lugs as well! Thanks for the PM, Brent. To any others who might be interested, the Raleigh Professional frame is tentatively for sale but I am not planning to advertise it anytime soon as I have a few other bikes/projects to move on more definitely... Just checked my Italvega f/f with lots of chrome, including the sloping fork crown and horrid paint... sadly only 58cm CTT seat tube.
I’ve also got a Raleigh International (copper) at 62cm CTT seat tube and 57cm CTC top tube. Unfortunately for your use case, it has decent paint/chrome/decals.

Have a 25" Chrome Schwinn voyageur 11.8 I'd let go for a reasonable price to a fellow bfer. Might be too new at an 81. Can get pics and measurements tonight after work if you're interested. Chrome is solid overall, clear coat is not.
