I was doing about 17 when I crashed in gravel and broke my collar bone and cracked a few ribs last year. So my maximum cruiser spreed is now 15, hill or no hill. Safety third.

Nice rat fink, a bit more than mine. 43mph on my electra townie. It was about a mile long downhill.

According to my GPS, 29.9mph. I think if I hit 30 it would have ripped a hole in the time/space continuum and ended up in the parking lot of a Western Auto store ca 1960. (Of course this was on a hill where I routinely go 35+ on my road bike - without pedaling.)

I got up to 16mph once but it interrupted my whistling and singing while cruising so I slowed down.

I did 30 MPH once on my wife's cruiser just to see what it would do...a bit of a down slope, nice bit of tail wind...she didn't really care too much for that on HER bike so I haven't tried since. Has a nice little mechanical speedo.

I don't think that speed is the forte of any beach cruiser.

i don't know, it's fun to try and wind it out every once in a while. partially because at one time someone said my main stretch looked like some kind of bonneville flats beach cruiser, it just put me in a mind to try it. when i had a computer on it, i got up to about 25mph on flat ground.

~45mph downhill (scary handling at those speeds). Peak short bursts ~23mph. Long stretch and in a rush ~16-17mph. Typical cruising speed anywhere from 10-15mph depending on how I feel and/or if I'm hauling something around...no need to have my groceries flying out of the baskets if I hit a big bump or dip...lol. With a good wind blowing... that kills and would be riding one of my other bikes if not on a shopping run. Would need longer cranks and diff gearing if I wanted a go quicker cruiser.

I got the funny idea the other day to do a criterium race with nothing but beach cruisers. I think it would be interesting, especially if you could wear roller derby gear while you ride and everyone does a roller derby bike race.

I grew up in an era in which we cruised the city in our cars simply because we didn't have anywhere to be. The car was our private rolling space. The cruising would be interrupted by the occasional drag race. Sometimes cruising is about going fast, if you don't agree you are obviously too young to remember or perhaps to understand that cruising the streets was a way of life for millions of young North Americans. Yes you would go slow at times but many of these cruisers had massive powerful engines ready to erupt. I don't see how cruising on a bicycle is any different, I love gravity and take full advatage of every down hill I come upon, hee yaw, giddy up.

Downhill with the wind at my back I've hit 48.5Km/h (30mph) which was only a few clicks away from that roads speed limit :$ I don't have a motor so i felt pretty good about my self
