Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Come to think of it, I rarely want to talk to motorists.

They REALLY want you to buy a package at mlb.tv We had it one season, and it was nice, but we have better things to spend money on.

Fox broadcasts a game every Saturday, and mlb.tv offers up one Free Game most days (new this year the Free Game is on Amazon Prime Video also). I think people with cable with ESPN might get a few more games. I remember back when I had basic cable we got many Cubs games on WGN.

Did FedEx cease operations down there? You know some enterprising young man could buy up all their vans and repaint them FedMex.

When I was a ute I had a bee sting me on the back of my tongue. I spat it out (tasted like a ball of dust) and I ran it over with my bike. Didn't have a lot of swelling.

A few years ago I was descending in the mountains going 35-40 mph when I saw a big black bug about to hit me in the face. I tried to duck but it hit me just below the eye and it pushed my head back a little, like a light punch. It left a mark but whatever it was, it didn't sting me.

I went through some bees once and 2 of them stung me on the thigh at the same time, one around the knee and the other higher up, through the Lycra. I looked down and could see the one on my skin but felt the sting from the other one. It was confusing for a minute. Later, after we climbed over the ridge and bombing down the other side a bee hit the top of my glasses and broke apart and a piece of it went into my eye. Luckily, I didn't get stung and was able to stop safely.

Last year I got stung by something going downhill and it hurt like hell. Right through the mustache and my top lip hung out for a few days but there was a lump or nodule on my lip for months. Maybe the stinger stayed in there.

When I rode dirt bikes I had opened the zipper on my jersey and scooped up a wasp. Stung me a couple times before I could stop and get it out. I always zip up for descents now.

I could do this for a long time.

I mean, even if they're just making friendly small talk. I'm wanting the light to change green, they're often hard to hear, it almost always feels awkward when motorists start talking to me.

Or, tell her you'll let her go first so she can safely get her car on the sidewalk.

An old friend of mine, English woman very into motorcycles, told me about a time she was zooming down the M1, which I gather is a freeway equivalent, on a warm day, so she had the neck of her leathers open a bit. She saw ahead of her "A bee the size of a planet" that went right down her cleavage. She said she whipped over to the side of the road and tore off her top. Knowing her, she probably was not wearing a bra. She mentioned motorists staring at a topless woman jumping up and down by the side of the road.

Apart from my bee to the lip at 35 mph experience on Sunday, most of my insect encounters involve small bugs in the mouth and the occasional larger bug into the helmet vents. A couple times, I could feel them crawling around on my scalp under the helmet, and more than once I stopped and let them out. It's one reason I wear a skull cap all the time now. That and no longer having enough hair to prevent sunburn.

Had a game the other day and my son was on hand to take some long-awaited shots. I think when one has been engaged in sport as long as I have they owe it to themselves to capture a few moments. Face it, it's who I am.

Usually it would be something like..."I'm good. Thanks."

If I know it's going to be a long light, and I'm feeling a bit snarky..."Thanks for your concern, but it seems you're unaware that bicycles are not allowed to be ridden on the sidewalk, by law. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. State Vehicle Code mandates that bicycles are to be ridden on the road, where they have to follow the same laws - and are afforded the the same rights - as cars. I'm also familiar with this road, and know what I'm doing. Have a nice day!" At some point in that, she will probably regret the decision to offer "helpful advice" and will reach for the button to roll her window back up. Sometime later that day, she will post on her social media about the snotty cyclist that was so rude to her when she was just trying to be nice.
