1987 Albert Eisentraut

I was pretty stoked to pick this up local craigslist ad, no picture, but he had me with the description, original owner, phil wood hubs, upgraded record brakes, and extra aero wheel set. better yet it was a few miles from my house. the monostay with the record brake looks so cool, at least to me

That’s a beauty.
Looks to be a quick handling bike.
Delta brakes have a reputation for being less than superior for stopping power. Mine are acceptable, but you might want to put new pads on them.

You do want to put new KoolStop salmon pads on your Delta brakes. My older Campag. sidepulls were downright scary with lesser pads, including Shimanos.

@konakai

Never seen and couldn't find another Eisentraut with that wishbone/binder bolt.

That was a Andy Newlands/Strawberry thing.

Here's one that I have.

Did they work together somewhere? I know Eisentraut is kind of like the godfather of American framebuilders, so I could be mixing Newlands up with someone else, but I thought I read something about a connection between them once.

I also heard a story about the wishbone seat stays. I don't remember the exact details, and I have no idea if there's any truth to it, but it had something to do with it being an accidental invention brought about by necessity, like he was trying to solve some problem and couldn't figure it out how to do it with traditional seat stays so he did this and people liked it. Does that sound familiar?

That is really cool. Just FYI, the brakes aren’t necessarily an “upgrade” as it looks like the whole group is C Record and the Deltas were stock with that. You can maybe say the whole group is an upgrade.

repechage , my wife was in a different sorority and she’s thrown that line at me, with a little modification, before!

I am pretty sure they did not work together, as far as I know Merz, Newlands and DiNucci all started on their own and that DiNucci worked for both of the other two.

Not sure about the wishbone but have heard that Andy's version was his own design as well as the binder bolt.

I think this may be a Strawberry, redone as a Traut.

Yes. That number says it's the 2nd frame made in February 1988. (Bruce Gordan used the same system, possibly with a "G" in front of the digits.)

Nope. But have seen Eisentrauts with that serial number setup. One is in my basement with the rest of what passes for my stable.

Retro Bike Restorations (and other cycling musings): Eisentraut

https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=143070

Edit: Oops. Those just have the monostay thing, not the binder bolt.

If the subject bike is a Traut, maybe he sourced the crown and binder from Andy.

I really don't know alot about eisentrats but I would bet dollars to doughnuts this is an original legit eisentraut. not because I own it....I bought this from the original owner who had it built for him.... I know sellers will tell you anything and everything...but again dollars to doughnuts

Agreed on the seller part but the binder is a pretty big outlier. I've done a pretty deep basic dive and cannot find any Eisentraut with this wishbone crown or binder. And while I am no Traut expert either, I do know quite a bit about Strawberry's, yours is a dead ringer for my black one in both regards.

I will reach out to Andy and see what he says but would really like a pic of the s/n to use too.

a pic of the serial number, are you doubting my word or my eyesight. my eyesight could be in question. I really don't know much about newer bikes, but I'm a wealth of useless information on 1920s 30s bikes and riders. that said I have little to no ego when it comes to these bikes. I don't ride much anymore, but I enjoy reading and researching about builders, bikes and riders. I had never heard of strawberry, they look like beautiful builds, I'll read up on them. I'll post a pic of the serial number tomorrow....thanks for your interest in my post
