Just signed up for the Ramrod lottery. Won't find out if I made the cut until April. BUT if I am fortunate enough to win a spot I'll be looking for some like minded riders to form a paceline with. If anyone a) entered the lottery and b) made the cut, let's see if we can meet up for the ride.

"Winning" is not being sagged off the course. I have a bypass for this year, but haven't decided whether or not to register. I have quite a pile of RR jerseys. I'm beginning to think I might be able to get sufficiently trained. Skied almost 25,000' at Stevens yesterday and I'm still a long way from being in good shape. I worked on hard carving, knees well bent, on my new skis, first time I've tried that. Modern skis are nice. My old POS skis were lost off the top of a friend's car, so I had to buy some "new" demo skis. About BOMROD: I rode with a fellow who did that BOMROD route every year, possibly the only person I've ridden with who did that and maybe that's you? You ever ride with Kent's group?

To the OP: do you know about Per's RAMROD Training Series? RAMROD Training

I don't particularly like Per's routes so I have my own training build-up theory, which is that if you can ride about 60 miles and 3000' every weekend, doing every hill at full throttle, all the way to the last hill, that's good enough training. That said, there are a couple of rides I do every year, as a check on my training and as confidence-builders. The easier one is from the Deli Stop to Chinook Pass and then to Sunrise and back. The harder one is from Ohanapecosh over Cayuse, then down to the Hwy 12 junction and back over White Pass, etc. I say if you can ride that, you can ride RAMROD. Besides, it's a stunning ride. Also, the fastest times I've had on RAMROD were after also doing the one-day STP. That's great endurance training and helps you figure out how hard to go to last 10 hours in the saddle. It's flat, but if you push, it's all the same thing.

There's a harder ride than the Chinook-Sunrise ride. You start from Ohanapecosh and just ride to Sunrise and back. Very simple. If you ride out of Ohanapecosh, you park in the Park equipment yard. You turn left rather than right as you enter Ohanapecosh, which takes you to the equipment yard where you park to the left against the trees. It's OK.

Still early days about getting in to the ride. But fingers crossed, I'll get in. I did ride maybe 15 years ago, so I am looking forward to testing my mettle again. Carbonfiberboy Thanks for the training plan. Where I live I have LOTS of hills/mountains/etc. so I will definitely get my elevation training in.

I entered. Last time I rode RAMROD was in 2012. I'm taking a sabbatical from work this summer and decided "why not?".

I actually had a ticket in 2020. Covid killed that and they moved the ticket to 2021. Covid killed that one too.

I don't really like organized rides anymore, but I make an exception for RAMROD, it's really well-done and stunning.

I'm living fulltime in Cle Elum this summer and if I make it through the lottery, there are plenty of good hills to train on here, especially the climb onto Table Mountain. I'll be doing that one a LOT.

I've never heard of BOMROD. I'll have to look it up. Is the ride organized, like RAMROD, or just an unofficial ride?

Sorry, I just saw this now. BOMROD is Best Of Mount Rainier in One Day. It's a disorganized ride, with a different route every time. But it's a lot of fun, and sometimes there are good pictures.

Well that's a bummer. Where is your place on the waiting list? I seem to remember that if you are at or below around 300 you have a good shot at getting in.

I am heading down from BC for this. At this point was planning solo, but would be nice to have some more people to ride with.

I had to cancel my registration. Had a nasty crash a couple weeks back. Cracked my helmet and hurt my shoulder. I was really looking forward to the day - it's a special ride. Good luck to all of you still planning to ride. Maybe next yearfor me!
