Can anyone date this old 5-speed Peugeot?
Can anyone tell from the pictures the age of
this old 5-speed Peugeot ?
Weinmann alloy 650B wheels,
Mafac cantilever brakes,
Simplex with shift lever on the top tube...

Rear derailleur appears to be much later; very cool bike though! Paint is awfully nice - a respray
juvela : I think the juy stuff is original, because the shifter on the top tube appears to be mounted to a brazed on base, and the double cable stop near the seat lug.

assumed this as well due to the stamped sheet outer plate
then noticed what appeared to be thumbwheel adjusters in the interior...
just not enough pixels in the image!
am sure you are correct - exactly like always!
it may have been fitted with a TdF at the factory and the owner longed for more capacity...and better shifting(!) so this later seventies era model was mounted...

I am 99% certain the RD is a S001 from early 80s. The "improved" Prestige.... (Actually I have one and it shifts very well, but got it brand new for something like $13 on sale so it should).

Overall, someone did a really lovely job putting together a nice example of that style of bike. I just noticed on reexamination the pump pegs behind the seat tube so that is another indication that the frame and many components are indeed early.
Edit: I spent some time looking through catalogs and while never a precise thing it appears the the pump pegs moved to the down tube by 1963 for any of the models this bike might have been, so I would place it as originally at most a 1962. Most of the french models that meet the other specs of this bike were 650B and had only 3 speeds, so would love to see a closer view of the rear derailleur areas. Also most of the models that had the top tube shifter also had upright bars.....the drop bar models usually had a down tube shifter for the read and if a 8 or 10 speed a lever shifted front.

here in coastal california the natives know that when ambient temps drop down to about 15c it is time to break out the down garments...

5 degrees Celsius today with bright sunshine. Absolutely balmy compared to, let's say, Ontario, BC, Alberta etc.
