I haven’t been to their site in a while but went there today and noticed the only road bikes they’re now selling are their Ventura models? They used to have xenith and quest models? is it due to Covid or did they drop those altogether?

Good question. My wife rides the Satelite, which was the precursor to the Quest. Probably sees more money in the gravel/urban bike market. The Renegade is getting great reviews, and maybe those who in the past would have bought a road bike are looking more for the versatility of a gravel bike. Which is fair. Smaller brands need to pick and choose where they want to compete, and where they should just leave it to the big brands.

I was thinking that might be the case. The renegade is a nice bike. I almost bought one a couple years ago but got a deal on another bike. But I have a Ventura race and one of their hard tails. I doubt they were selling many of their xeniths and I’m guessing they weren’t making much off the Quests.

but the renegades are nice. But I don’t see a ton around.

I just think the market has changed. When I bought my Salsa Casserol 9 years ago, it was sort of an odd ball. Part road bike, part commuter, part gravel bike, and part light tourer. Back then, only Surly, and its QBP sister Salsa made bikes like that. But now, every brand has something like that, sometimes multiple lines like that. On the other hand, I wonder if the road bike segment of the market is contracting, at least in the US, as there hasn't been an American competing in the Tour de France that captured the public imagination like Lance Armstrong did.
Anyway, this isn't all bad. I think aging boomers are moving towards new categories of bikes, like electric or hybrids, while younger folks are going over to gravel bikes. So the bike brands go where the public wants, usually. (I have a beef with what the industry is offering at the entry level, but that is another kettle of fish) Even hybrid/mountain bikes with 650b tires and disc brakes are now a thing. Look at what Jamis is selling and that is basically what you see now.

It should be considered that all models are not on the website. I’ve seen this with other brands, and I think it’s to do with COVID-wonky supply chains throughout the world. Part of the situation is driven by production supply lag and uncertainty, and the rest by decisions about how to strategically manage those production issues.

Of course some models may be disco’d, but some just delayed or allocated to certain markets. With COVID, anyway, I’d not make much of any assessment which does not make account of the pandemic impacts.

I also noticed their light weight cross country race mountain bikes were no more as well.

When I asked Jamis this very same question, they replied that the Renegade has replaced the Quest and Zenith.
