At your age a more upright posture would probably be nice.

Never heard a riser bar called a 'road riser' before, but risers are all but standard on 26" & 650b MTB's. Not ridden off road with a flat bar for several years now.

I don't like truly flat bars-- never have, never will. The main thing I like about 'riser' bars is that nearly all of them sweep up and back. 8 or 9 degrees back is awesome.

Me neither... all my MTBs have riser bars... I fel like I have more control over handling with a riser than flat bar...

Some of these would finish the transition really well. They work best if the point straight up, better torque!

I get why people want and use bar ends but... long story short, fell down a cliff, my inner thigh (you know that soft fleshy spot) landed on the bar end. Drove it straight to the bone. Had a hematoma the size of a grapefruit on my inner thigh for almost a year before it was absorbed. Sexy!!!!

I would hook those bar-ends on a tree and then it would be over & out.

D, my wife likes those Deity bars you suggested. You need a set.

Is it easier to do that on a barend than on the end of a bar?

I'd think Ergons wouldn't be all that stabby/core samply.

I prefer no barends, myself, unless offroad/dirtroad touring.

sounds like an N+1 in the making ...? I remember messing with my MTB bars for road use and it was a long expensive arduous journey to the road bikes I use now. might want to save yourself the same and just get another bike!

as for bar ends ... never again

You sound like my wife!

A local DHer is selling his riser bar and going back to flat. Doesn't look that bad. He wants $30 for his riser.

I have one rig with flat bar and one with risers.

I go to the risers if I wanna ride wheelies!

Would like but they are the wrong brand; would not make points with sponsor.

Poll: bar ends are for:
  1. Hangers for teh grocery bags
  2. Bicycle jousting tournaments
  3. Workshop coat trees
  4. All of the above

This thread is developing in a funny and interesting way . . .

Ah, that explains the Renthal bar. Duh... I think you'd be plenty happy with those.

Also speaking of your sponsors, I tumbled off a bluff recently and ripped the heck out of a pair of Pearl Izumi shorts-- the pocket snagged on something pointy. I was lamenting my lack of decent shorts last night and it dawned on me that I didn't have any shorts remotely close to as good as my Royal SP 247 pants.

Solution: https://www.artscyclery.com/Royal_Rac...e-RRSP247.html

Now if I can just beat my wife home the day they're delivered, I can put them in drawer with the rest of my gear and carry on like I've always had them.

I've liked everything about Royal's Peaty line. I have the SP247 pants too and the jersey (just not the shorts). But that's only because I've been trying out other shorts: started with the Race - - have two pair, which I still love; have the Turbulence short - - a great park-riding short with its bazillion pocketses and the lift pass lanyard; and am now trail-riding in the Signature shorts. Note on the Sigs: I have usually hated the built-in chamois in mountain shorts and took to wearing REI cycling briefs with DH short because of it. The Signatures won me back - - I guess because it's essentially a snap-in 'brief' inside a shell short. Jason at Royal tells me that the Matrix shorts are by far the most popular; may have to try those out next and see if I like those.

I use the stealth approach all the time to get new goodies in the house. Wife runs across an empty box after it's home and asks, "What did you get this time?"
