Carbon wheels for 2015 Scott Foil
I have a 2015 Scott Foil 30 that is totally stock, aside from routine maintenance.
I have toyed with the idea of upgrading to a new bike..or just upgrading what I have. I don’t “need” a new bike, there is nothing wrong with what I have and I still enjoy it.
My bike is known for being very stiff…and I suspect carbon wheels might help the ride as well as just improve all other aspects that normally improve with carbon wheels.
Any suggestions on what would be a good wheelset for my bike? I have clincher brakes and tubes in my tires.
I’d want something that is aero but not massively deep wheels… i think the stuff I’ve seen that is 30/40/50 looks decent.
I don’t need total top of the line stuff. I don’t race, but I would like to upgrade the bike. I’ve seen Oleo and other “cheaper” brands..not sure if they are ok or not worth the money.
thank you

Unless you get low-profile carbon rims, they might add to the stiffness.
Also, carbon with rim brakes can be challenging.

Carbon wheels definitely aren't going to do anything for the ride quality of your bike. Tires, for sure. Saddle, a bit. Bar tape, maybe. Wheels...no. Zero. Even at 120psi you'll never feel anything that's going on with the wheels, especially with carbon rims.

A 2015 Foil would be more akin to a race bike than an aero bike so I would say go with something 40mm or lower in depth
Something like these from Hunt (36mm) at sub 1300g would def add some stiffness and lighten up the bike

I alwasy thought that switching to carbon would be a big noticeable improvement in many ways… smoother, better handling, faster, easier to accelerate, etc…
i thought they would make the bike ride better..or will they make it stiff as hell and more bumpy? I dont’ need full blown race wheels…my aluminum ones work..but if I can make my bike feel “newer and better” by spending a $1000-1500 I’d consider it. If it’s a ton more than that it might be a better use of funds to just buy a new bike.
my bike is an aero / race bike. I’s an older one…but i still enjoy it.
Is it easier to maintain speed on carbon wheels?

I mean you just listed why carbon wheels are better: faster, better handling, more comfortable, lighter, and easier to accelerate. You can get "good" carbon wheels for like $800 now a days if you don't want to drop $1500. The problem is the cost of bikes are a lot more than they used to be. If you wanted am updated Scott Foil, I think they start at $4300 and at least for last gen 2022, that meant mechanical group set and aluminum rims. So even with that $1500 you would have put towards wheels, and maybe $1200 you get for your Foil private sail, that's still $2700, meaning you dropping another $1.6K more or less to get another aero bike and the Foil is one of the cheaper aero bikes out there. Even if you didn't want another aero bike, another race bike is at least $3500 which might be more worth it

I have a pair of older Shimano Dura Ace C50 (WH-7850-C50) wheels that I would be happy to part with for significantly less than the $ you're talking about. If you're interested, PM me.
These wheels (bike, tires, cassette, etc. not included )...
