Not a road sign, and spelled a bit differently, but I still found it amusing. Try to get the theme song out of your head.

This one is soooo cute!

(I live 60 miles from the real Continental Divide...and it's a lot higher in the air.)

How may people have a wind turbine with their name on it

IMGP1238 by Stuart Black, on Flickr

Or a town

IMGP1251 by Stuart Black, on Flickr

Everything in the town had my name on it except the local propane gas supplier. It didn't say Stuart's Gas. I was so bummed.

High on the creep factor

One of my favorites but I don't have a picture of it was in Clatskane, OR. It said "Food left at corner". It wasn't.

One of the neighbors had a sign posted similar to this:

I always wondered if the wording should have been different.

Thought he may have been with your group. I know him. That jersey looks familiar as well as his build. He has ridden the trail a lot. Would be something if that was him.

The only one in my group was me. That's my usual mode of bicycle travel.

I will say that the GAP is a hoot after you get over the "continental divide". I would hate to come up from Pittsburgh. One hundred miles of uphill or one hundred miles of downhill...so difficult to choose

I have always come from Pittsburgh. I can leave right from my house. Get on the road for maybe 2 miles and then be on the Montour which connects to the GAP. On roads10 miles at the most.

You should have said something. Would have been happy to show you around. Lots to see here.

One of my favorites was in Lincoln VT, a sign reading
SLOW
DEAF
CHILDREN

Yes, we all know that it means to go SLOW because there are DEAF CHILDREN in the area, but that ain't how it reads.

I rode past that connection on the way towards downtown Pittsburg. After some post tour map reviewing, it would have saved me some pain if I had turned on it and headed towards the airport. As it was I ended up climbing up that stupid hill south of the river on Steuben Road as well as another higher hump (Steubenville Pike) west of there.

Man, I hate the eastern US and its mean little hills!

LOL. You likely went right past my house.

Yes coming from the airport, you could have made a left or a right. Left takes you to Coraopolis which connects to Neville Island. It is all flat all the way to Pittsburgh. If you cross the Mckess Rocks Bridge (which I recommend) there is a slight incline. A bit longer that way but flat.

Make a right from the airport and you connect to the GAP. Same terrain as the GAP just a little more compressed.

My hill (Beaver Grade Road) which you likely climbed and Stueben St ar no big deal IMHO. But I am used to it.

I was actually going from Fort Pitt towards the airport. Google maps didn't tell me about riding the north side of the river. I tend to take the suggestions from Google maps with a grain of salt but they got me that time.

Still MUCH better ways to go than Stueben Street. And I have to agree that coming form that side is a bit worse than the other way around. I could have given you a route from Fort Pitt to the airport that has no hills except the ramp up to the bridge and one or two once you get to the airport connector. It takes you on busy 51 but you can use the sidewalk. Then you have the bike path across the river but it is longer and means one steep climb after getting off of the path. I am trying to figure which I want to do after getting off of the train his year.
