Boxer briefs. All of you trashing the idea of somebody doing long intense rides in non cycling specific clothing are embarrassing. Nobody would bat an eye in the runners world about someone wearing for instance basketball shorts instead of running shorts. This idea that you NEED cycling shorts or you will necessarily get saddle sores that will hinder your enjoyment of riding is ludicrous. I find cycling specific shorts to be annoying to wear when not riding so if I go for a 30 mile ride before work I don't want to be stuck in the cycling shorts.
I do wear a shirt, btw, my shoulders and back would be a sunburned blisterfest if I didn't.

...this would be a good time to segue into a brief digression, on whether or not you would get a better workout filling the pockets of your cargo shorts with lead shot, or possibly fishing weights, all strung together. I, for one, am interested.

Don't fill the pockets too full of pointless things or there won't be room for dumpster diving prizes. Unless those items can be attached to the bike in the same manner as a golf club.

"...caged balls... are held in a... retainer... but usually at a cost in performance... Most retainers hold fewer balls, so each ball and its contact points... are more heavily stressed. This causes higher friction and more rapid wear... I strongly recommend... loose balls."

In reality ya don't want to make any Peanut Butter so at least wear a Jock Strap. Bicycle Brand probably best... Ha

And there are several of these such groups apparently. I think there is a unique group of flippers that keep an eagle eye on estate sales or garage sales when grandpa gets sent to the home.

Gotta say, I'm definitely feeling 3 days in a row of riding in sunny 90+ degree heat, but it's not a clothing issue.

I rode thirty miles yesterday afternoon and wasn't more particularly in need of a change or shower afterward. I wouldn't argue that an intense 30 mile ride of short duration will work up a sweat and call for a shower and change before civilized activities off the bike. My ride, however, was about four hours and I made numerous stops at the beach, the marina, the casino, the resort, and the mountain gondola. It wasn't particularly hot, I didn't strain myself on the bike, and I was wearing loose-fitting non-cycling clothes. The ride was in fact a couple tenths under 32 miles and mostly flat (total gain of 1200 feet elevation). I showered with gloriously chlorinated water (and soap!) at the end of the day, but I don't think I was more soiled from cycling than I would have been motoring or walking a more modest distance.
I can appreciate that cycling apparel should be promoted as appropriate for intensive cycling activities. People shouldn't be misled to think they can exhert themselves to their maximum cycling performance without regard to wearing kit appropriate to the task. Personally, I'm not interested in cycling for exercise, fitness, performance, competition, or to achieve any goal within cycling itself. I just enjoy getting around at slower pace than motoring, out in the open for the maximum enjoyment of my environment. One of the reasons I came over from motorcycling was to get away from the excessive noise and the encumberance of ear plugs and protective kit. I've always been an ATGAT rider. I wouldn't have survived without it, but gear is a major hinderance off the bike. One of cycling's appeals is that it can be done with reasonable safety and comfort without any specialty gear. I wear a helmet, but it could be reasonably argued that a person could cycle without it and not be making a grievous error.
The harder and faster a cyclist rides, the more appealing they will find cycling-specific kit. The more they have to do on the portions of their trip they're off the bike, the more they will appreciate wearing whatever they want without regard to any special demands of cycling itself.

Why do you think I don't wear a shirt? I stand in the wind for ~5 min when I get back to work to cool down and then put on a fresh shirt that was tied to my bars. put some deodorant on when I get there.

...well it wasn't the people who run the annual naked bike ride, in Portland. Maybe it was some suggestion he got, trolling on a triathlon forum ?

A good stat would be an itemized list of the various "issues in the genital area", using only medical terminology.
I'll start : testicular elephantiasis.
