In memory of Sarah Chapman, 20, killed by an SUV yesterday at UAH. I never met her, and I don't know why it breaks me down to read about her, but I hope she's in a better place. None of these things make any sense sometimes.

RIP, Ms. Chapman.

and this picture I took of him (3rd in this line) as he raced to 127th out of 1600+ racers in the Chequamegon 40 mile point to point MTB race in Hayward, WI. one week ago and just 6 days before his untimely passing.

Rest In Peace Gregg. The roads are smooth for you now.

Rito "Anthony" Mungioli, 51 struck from behind by a teenage driver. Sun in his eyes cited as the cause. The case has been referred to the Grand Jury.
He was very involved in youth soccer, in the area. I met him a few years ago when I played adult soccer at the Soccer Spectrum. I didn't know he was a cyclist.

David Meek of Chattanooga, Tennessee 3/6/2009
----
A bicyclist traveling in the 1000 block of Ashland Terrace became entangled with a truck and was killed Friday morning.

He was identified as David L. Meek, 51, a biking enthusiast who was active in the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. He had been a leader of the three-day Tour de Charohala Challenge.

He lived on Wood Lane in Red Bank and owned a bike shop on N. Hawthorne Street in Chattanooga.

Police were alerted to the scene around 6:40 a.m.

According to witnesses, the cyclist was traveling on Ashland Terrace toward Hixson Pike. As a box-type truck traveling in the same direction passed by the cyclist, a saddle bag on the back of the bicycle caught the rear footboard of the truck and yanked the bike out from under him.

The victim was thrown into the street where he suffered severe injuries. The victim was transported to Erlanger Hospital where he later died.

The driver of the truck told police that he never saw the bicyclist and did not know there was anything wrong until he saw the victim in the street.

Charges in the incident are pending further investigation.

Fabio Casartelli

Sorry if this has already been mentioned:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabio_Casartelli

Fabio Casartelli (August 16, 1970 – July 18, 1995) was an Italian cyclist and an Olympic gold medalist, who died in a crash on the descent of the Col de Portet d'Aspet, France, during the 15th stage of the 1995 Tour de France.

Lance Armstrong at the time riding on the Motorola Squad went on to win a Stage just a few days later. When he crossed the finish line you can see him point to the sky as a victory in Casartelli's honor.
